Question about slipseating and Cb's

Hey folks,, dont know much about radios, I slipseat trucks cause are loads are local for the most part (their idea of local is anything that can be run and home in 10 drive time hours or less) So I was wondering. What kinda radio could take the abuse of just sitting on a consule or dash, and what type of ant. hook up would work best? Or would it be better just to get a little hand held? Main use would be just for local directions, and coop status.
Thanks for any info.

Re: Question about slipseating and Cb's

Most slip seater's I have ever seen, just buy a cheap radio...then buy a visegrip type antenna mount with a cheap fiberglass antenna...
A uniden Pro 510 XL is a good radio for this....cost about $50.00 new..and talks pretty good, I have owned several of these little radio's.

The handheld cb radios do not work very good, because you don't have enough antenna, and they cost just about as much as a Uniden Pro 510 XL!

Good luck hope this helps...

Good advice Redneck.

Allot of slip seaters buy slip seater boxes and install thier radio's in them.

Re: Question about slipseating and Cb's

Thanks guys for the suggestions.. All the trucks have am/fm cd radios so I am good there. I did like the looks of the bag radio idea, Easy to carry in and out, Also found the grips for the mirrors pre-made and the ant. I like the idea of the inexpensive radio (dont need no big radio for the trouble I could, and probably would get into with it.) I had thought about a hand held, but thanks for the heads up.. I just wasn't sure, and before I went out and spent the hard earned money, figured I would ask.
You guys rock,, thanks again..
