FEW mods are legal and many just make a radio sound worse If you want power on CB buy a amp if you don't like the amp you can sell it .....

:biggrin_25521:Kinda reminds me of a 57 chev gauge cluster style, and the center knob too me looks flimsy and could get wobly after awhile, im in the market for a new radio , but ill give this lots thought as i like my weather station and alert part of it, i always ran 29's , both reg and nighthawk, good radios, my volume knob on my last one vib loose , was a easy fix at 59 bucks at cb shop, but like he said this rare that it happens, :biggrin_25521: Everett/.

From what I have seen most of the amps are cheaper too....and more power than modding a CB. It would just be nice to have a variable power mod to turn down the CB to 2-3 watts so as not to burn out the amp!!

The radio feels very solid, for those that are worried about it. The ONLY complaint I have as of now, (day 2 in use) is channel changing. I haul sand & gravel, and when we go to pits to get loaded, each pit utilizes a different channel so the loader and driver can communicate. They vary up and down the regular 40. Our company runs 27 as drivers so we can talk in a quiet place with each other. So when switching from 27 to other pit channels, is where my complaint comes in. On a regular Cobra, each "click" of the dial is a channel, no matter how fast you spin it. If I am going down to channel 4, I give the knob a good crank to get close, and a few clicks from there.

This new radio and knob setup is all software controlled, so if you spin the knob hard to go from 27 to 4 (for example) you will probably only get down to 23. Another hard crank, and you are down to 18 or so. If you roll the knob slowly, you can change one channel at a time. But when driving, most of us are in the habit of not spinning the knob super slowly.

Sounds like we are going to put this radio though its paces. I can't wait till I get mine in from AL. I would run an amp but as a Trainer I don't want the newbies near the good stuff as they don't understand what they are playing with.

I thought this new radio had some preset channels that would be perfect for goin from ch to ch.

I don't think so. He was also worked with Sparky for a bit then went on his own. I have a cobra 29 stealth that was done by Doug when he was working with Sparky.
