Actually it is quite easy to find him, then what.

If you have a single antenna you are directional in the direct of the largest amount of sheet metal. Have someone you know key up when your about 50 yards away. Slowly do a circle with the car/truck, when the meter peaks its highest reading take a look as to where the transmit radio is in relation to you.

This tells you which way you vehicle is directional towards. Now also while still at the peak adjust your rf gain to bring the needle down to the top line on your meter. Now you know aprox what your meter will read when you get close to the real carrier.

Back in the 70's and 80's we used to have weekly "tea hunts" in Burbank. It would take less than 15 minutes average to locate a hidden transmitter. The only rule was it had to be hearable at the meeting place (Safeway by Brough's High).

You do not need anything special to find a signal. RF loops are general a joke on 27 Mhz.

You can also get one of those cheapie mag mounts with the short whip, coil in the center antennas. When you get sort of close, take the antenna off the trunk, and stick it on the door of the car! Turn the car slowly in a parking lot! The signal should "null" on the opposite side of the car. That is your next direction to head in! If you want to get fancy, add a compass to your arsenal! Keep doing that, and turning the receiver gain down until you get on top of the culprit. Make your notes, etc and turn it over to FCC.

if you have a continuous signal and a good handheld scanner, it's actually rather easy, i used to to search and rescue and could track down a planes beacon by going off signal strength and going slightly off frequency and then removing antenna as i got close, good luck getting them to transmit that long tho

What type of people sit around the house all day broadcasting their annoyances to truck drivers that no one cares about? And the people that sit behind their curtains and chat away....I don't know what else to say!
