My company uses about 8-10 cb radios, all within about a 13 mile area.
Someone has recently either gotten on to our frequency or we have someone playing around/pranking on the radio.
Is there any way to track down who it was?
Is it possible to track where radio transmission is coming from

Unless they talk for minutes on end without releasing the mic key, no, and only then with some very sophisticated equipment...CBSPARKY Thanks this. -
It's pretty easy to triangulate on a station and find them...But what exactly do you plan on doing when you find them?
The channel doesn't belong to your company! It's a public band and you have no right to use it without interruption.
You're just gonna have to live with the annoyance or move your operation to another channel.
Or get company radios and be done with it!CBSPARKY, squirrellsgnwild, rocknroll nik and 3 others Thank this. -
blackw900 is right on the money here. You could probably contact your local ham club and try to get them to do a "fox hunt." If you have enough of them that are retired and bored and want to build the equipment, they might even help you out. But then what are you gonna do. Beat the crap out of the person doing it?
Even with commercial radios you can have some joker interfering with your operation, and that is HIGHLY regulated by the FCC. But the CB band is sort of a forgotten stepchild. I'm surprised to find any company that is using CB for business communication. And I'd be more surprised to learn that it's worth a ####, particularly over distances such as you are talking about.Last edited: Oct 23, 2010

Someone has gotten on your frequency, you say? Not hard to do, since all you need is a CB. And yes, the FCC can track where a CB is transmitting from, Heck, they can even tell what kind it is etc. BUT, thats if you're a real bad guy threatening The Prez, for instance, not some backyard dunce with a base station harrasing us poor truckers.

If its CB radio, yep, he has his right to the 40 channels just like the rest of us. Sucks that there has to be morons.
A guy I know found a local trouble maker using only his radio. He was blowing out our receive, so we knew we were close. I was riding along at the time, not driving, and I do not support nor condone the following behavior lol. But we pulled over, pulled the antenna off the roof, and turned the squelch all the way up. Once we got further in the subdivision to where we could hear him clear again, we just looked for a big bad base station antenna...found it, heard him yackin in the garage! The dude I was with kicked a huge dent in his garage door, and we left. End of story.
Like I said, I am not one to destroy personal property, but we did find the dude causing trouble with nothing more than a Magnum S6 with no antenna lol.handlebar Thanks this. -
You could do it if he isnt moving. You would have to have lots of time and patience. You would watch your signal strength meter as you drive around. As you get closer, you slowly turn down the RF gain in small amounts, then eventually, you unhook the antenna, (DO NOT TRANSMIT!), turn up the RF gain again and keep cruising around watching signal strength while slowly turning down the RF gain until you are on top of him. Baseball bats are optional... :smt075

I can remember back in the late 70's and early 80's when I was a kid if people acted like idiots on the radio in town, they got their coax cut or pinned. If they didnt get the hint, someone came along with a pick-up truck and a chain and pulled their tower down in the middle of the night. Ahhh the good ole days.....
