Northstar Radio

I am checking to see if anyone can tell me about the Northstar DX 330HML. Is it legal? I know nothing about it.

Thanks.

Re: Northstar Radio

No this is a 10 meter radio, meaning it has to be converted to 11 meter which in turn is illegal..

Re: Northstar Radio

Okay, I did not know this when I bought it. I do not want to break any laws and yes this CB has been modified I guess because it works as a CB. I don't even care about the upper and lower channels, don't even have a interest in listening in, not my thing. If I just use it as a CB and stay on the regular 40 channels can I get in trouble, I have had this radio for quite awhile and mostly use 19, never any Ham channels. Will I still get in trouble? I have never had a DOT officer ask me what kind of CB I had or even look at it. If the Ham police are driving around and listening for truckers to talk on their channels so they can turn them in and if I never get on their channels then they will never here me, correct?

Re: Northstar Radio

Nobody will care if you stay with-in the limits of CB. However there is a chance that a DOT or US Customs/Border Patrol can identify it if they see it. It is an unlikely chance but it is a chance.

If one does you could lose the radio and before being fined you will get a warning letter that you will have to respond too. If your smart and your responce is: Gee....I didn't know.......You'll be good to go.

If your responce is: Kiss my hiney, I'll do what I want, or a dirivative of that, the fines are monsterous. $7500 to $10,000 is typical but I have seen one guy fined $22,0000 and another who got his fine dropped to $1,700.

The real smart guys ignore the warning letter, ignore the NAL (Notice of Apparent Liability), which is the letter telling you the fine and why your being fined, and go before the Justice Dept in Federal Court. They usually end up in jail and the fines tend to grow.

This has happened a couple of times that I know of and is extremely rare.

Most guys work with the FCC after recieving the NAL to get their fines reduced and paid.

Yea lose a $300.00 or $400.00 dollar radio verses $7500.00 to $22,000.00...that one is not to hard to figure out.
