Are you fn retarded? What is there not to get? You prefer the work of DTB, I prefer someone else that is just as skilled (in MANY opinions, more so then DTB). :biggrin_25513:

He does ok work. Before I started going to Reese I had Darrel (CB World - I95 MD Exit 109) install a Connex Echo board in one of my 29's. I HATE echo but was wanting something that give that particular radio a cleaner sound...something similar to well, a Connex. The way he wired it caused significant squealing whenever I keyed up...a few days later I made my first vist to Reese who re-wired it properly...FOR FREE!!! I've never been to see another tech since (not to have work done anyway) All in all the guys at the 109 in MD are ok....a little expensive though. Supertune (# the 109) = $65, most other places run you anywhere from $40-$45...

And if you actually go inside of Reese's shop, he is also factory authorized to make repairs on galaxy, as well as Cobra and Connex. LOL...O the ignorance of some...:biggrin_25523:

So about this Reese guy-what kind of instrument(s) does he use to tune radios?

How are R&R Very picky Ham guys? When they don't hold Amateur radio licenses. And they sell radios with the limiter removed. I got a Galaxy from them a few years sounded like crap. It was a splatter box. And what Ham radios do they sell? NONE! The 10 meter Galaxies, Rangers, Magnum, Connex, Generals, and Strykers are not HAM radios. Just ask the FCC. Radios like Collins, Kenwood, Icom, Alinco, and Yaesu are! So I'm quite sure R&R does not know a good sounding Ham radio. Because DTB's radio can't be heard 25 channels away makes his bad to you? Radio transmissions are suppose to be Clean & Clear. Not over modulated. Somebody has truly got you fooled when it comes to radios. And I am a Ham guy licensed Extra class. Not your R&R guys.

...O the ignorance of some...You that right!

I've never been to R&R, I've only read great reviews on them and talked to many drivers in the area that sounded great, claiming R&R as their tech(s)! As for them removing the limiter...I had a feeling they might have done that just by the sound of their own radio! I know, that may seem to contradict my point but I HATE it when a shop removes that! It does nothing for power and produces nothing but over-modulation, AKA noise...I get that! SIDE NOTE -- I watched the guy in the Petro at Exit 52 in Carlisle PA (NOT DTB) cut the limiter out for a customer, showed him the before and after on the meter, claimed he had gained another 30w by making the cut. (from 40w to almost 70w...on a Cobra 29) I even questioned the tech right in front of the customer, letting him in on the fact that I knew what that "technique" produced, and he STILL had the nerve to tell me that "all those other techs just don't want yall to have the power I can give you"! THE CUSTOMER BOUGHT THAT BS HOOK, LINE, AND SINKER!!! Now that was truly unbelievable! As for them [R&R] being HAM guys, I spoke to them over the phone and the guy in the shop (don't remember his name) told me that he was "a licensed radio operator" and that he "also has amateur radios in stock" if I was interested in something of the sort. I never questioned what kind of "amateur radios" he had, nor did I ask for his freak'n HAM ID # or whatever...simply took him at his word on that one. If you say those guys are not HAM guys, then I'll take your word for it as I'm sure you have looked them up in the data base of licensed hams.

I always run on 19, you will NEVER hear me splattering over on 18 or 20...NEVER! If I splattered onto another channel with any particular radio, I simply wouldn't use it. Period! Remember, I'm a driver, there is nothing worse then the idiot that is splattering his BS onto 19....so really, why would I do the same thing when it is at the top of my list of "radio peeves"?
As for being clean & clear...as I said before, I will not take the radio out of the shop if the limiter is removed...I don't like to sound like I'm talking with a freak'n sandwich in my mouth! I mentioned before that I call out to nearly every tech that I pass for a radio check (well, techs that I know do decent work such as Darrel -109, DTB-52, Reese-5, etc.) Not a single one...NOT EVEN DTB, has given me a "bad report" on any of my radios! Admittedly, before I started going to Reese; DTB, Darrel, even "Bob the Butcher" at I81 MD-5, said that I sounded very muffled or "muddy".(of course the AMC had unknowingly been removed so what more can one expect?) Reese has always sent me out the door with a radio that is not only very powerful AND very loud,(I understand there is a HUGE difference in actual power and just being loud) but also crystal clear and clean as a whistle! Not over-modulated. IF, and that is a big IF, I decide to crank up the mic gain 100%, my transmission is just as clean and just as clear as if I were running the MG at the 2 O'clock position...which BTW, is where I normally keep it.

In short, no one has me fooled when it comes to radios. Believe it or not, this "dumb trucker", is very well educated. Before driving, and the market crash, I climbed to the top of the corporate latter into the highest ranks of upper-management for a company by the name of "ADVent" (and yes, the upper case is exactly how they spelled their name as it stands for AUDIO, DATA, VIDEO Enterprises! Did you hear that...AUDIO! :biggrin_25523: The fundamentals of audio have not escaped me. Although CB radio is a completely different animal then a "Contol4" system(fully automated in-home audio system) or a custom designed security system...there are basic fundamentals that apply to all...and those fundamentals I understand quite fluently thank you! :biggrin_25523:

CT, you are correct. First he says that he got great audio report from R&R the very picky Ham guys. Then he says he never had any dealings with them. With that said I know that I wouldn't trust his word on anything. And I wouldn't take my radios to some HACK in a motel room. :biggrin_25513:

Unless something has changed in the past 12 months or so, if you call Galaxy and ask for a shop recommendation for work on a model that is out-of-warranty, the following shops are the ones they will recommend.

• 8541 Electronics in Laurinburg, NC.
• Circuit Master CB Shop - 2 locations, Altoona IA, and Grand Island NE
• DTB Radio in Carlisle, PA
• Don's CB Sales and Service in Erie, PA. He's retiring, though.
The original list is a few years old, and can be seen at http://www.cbtricks.com/forum/index.php/topic,156.0.html This list was posted by Ray, who was their head technician at the time. Don's CB Shop is not shown on the original list. Don was contracted by Galaxy to handle some of their warranty work after the original list was posted.

Incidentally, for those who wonder where Ray went after leaving Galaxy, he called me about 2 weeks ago, and he's now working for the company that builds the Predator and Reaper UAV aircraft.

I didn't know Ray had left, he was always helpful the couple of times I emailed. I was really surprised the first time I wrote that I actually got a response from a real person, let alone one who knew what they were talking about. Does Galaxy still have someone knowledgeable to answer questions from the general public?
