Re: Sysco Drivers Warned about transmitting on 10 Meters!
I know all about the level of difficulty of the OLD tests. In fact that is why the relative I mentioned refuses to upgrade to Extra. He wants to keep his old Advanced call as a badge of honor, to show that he got through at the old standards. BTW, he was not surprised at my bad experience.
I studied the guides, I know how easy the tests are now, and so do you. If you are as active as you say, then you know how the new guys are viewed by a lot of the old timers. You should also know that some of the stuff that goes on on the ham bands makes 19 look like kindergarten. You can tell us all you want about the Public Service ham guys, and it is true, but there is a dark side to the hobby that they try to keep quiet. And it is not the new guys doing it, it is the old advanced and extra guys with the real tech knowledge that are often the worst. I bet you know exactly what I'm talking about. (I'm not accusing you of involvement, but sure you have heard it)
So, don't try and make those drivers look like they are the lone offenders on the ham bands.
If these guys go to an FCC school (at their own expense) are certified to do the tracking and evidence gathering, and are prepared to identify themselves to those that they accuse, then I have no problem with it. But this is not happening.
Until it does, those guys should keep their pens in their pocket protectors. (I couldn't resist using the stereotype, sorry)
Just so you both (Ray,Fly) know, I always tell my coworkers and anyone else who will listen, to stay on the regular 40, and they will stay out of trouble. I respect what you are trying to do, and hope the problem will be solved eventually.
No more arguing, I'm done. You win, whatever.

Re: Sysco Drivers Warned about transmitting on 10 Meters!
May I at least thank you for your efforts towards educating drivers about remaining on the legal 40! I, too, refused to take the Extra for the very same reason. I can honestly say that *I* do not indulge in shenanigans or embarassing activities on the ham bands. I come from a long line of military-trained radio folks and pretty much insist on a dignified exchange between mature grown-ups. Yes, I am pretty aggravated at the folks who are operating on the Amateur Bands wrongly, licensed or not! I hope the efforts to remove those who do not belong there bear fruit.
All US Customs and Border Patrol officers have been trained and have busted many drivers. The FCC has given these people authority to enforce FCC rules.
Funny...I'm a Border Patrol Agent (21 yrs) and this is the first I've heard of our having any delegated authority from the FCC!! And I've never heard of agents busting anyone for illegal radio/band usage. Although, as a licensed Ham, I've wished on more than one occasion that we could!! Pure BS! Makes me wonder how many other misinformations you've passed along.
Anyway...I'm new to this forum, thanks for having me. As previously mentioned, Amateur Radio is my hobby, but I do enjoy a litte CB once in a while. In addition to my Ham gear, I have a nice mod'd Ranger DX-2995 in the rack and a Starduster on the tower. I also have a mod'd Galaxy DX99 in my pickup. Love 'em both. SSB is fun, but Ch. 19 is where the entertainment is. Especially here close to a Flying J truck stop!
Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a healthy New Year.

With all due respect, you have not been reading what Riley Hollingsworth ASKED hams to do nearly 4 years ago; it is on QRZ and the ARRL archives.
There is, and never has been any "delegated" authority to do anything more than hams have done from the beginning of the hobby. You obviously do not read ARRL Letter, ARRL's FCC Enforcement Log, QRZ, OR the "RainReport". What hams ARE doing is simply LISTENING to the bands as we drive the highways; I believe that is our privilege since the beginning of the hobby. Truckers have been operating on the 10 Meter band for a number of years. Some of them also operate on 26 MHZ below the CB band. Often truckers can be heard on 28.085 AM. When this happens, the hams have merely copied down the trucker's info such as company name, location, highway exit or milepost, frequency of operation, date and time. This info was/is being forwarded to [LINK REMOVED]. In case you have not heard of Riley Hollingsworth, he is the FCC Special Counsel for Amateur Enforcement and is in charge of enforcement of matters regarding Amateur frequencies. Mr. Hollingsworth then fires off a letter of warning to the company whose driver has been observed operating on the 10 Meter band. This is usually enough to cause the company to take action against the driver because they are not going to take the side of a driver who is doing something clearly illegal.
The records of these "busts" are on ARRL archives, QRZ, and on the FCC's
enforcement page. I neither made up or "invented" any of these actions. And if that isn't enough, simply dial 717-338-2502. That is Mr Hollingsworth's phone # in Gettysburg, PA, and he will be glad to fill you in. He is most likely to be in the office on Fridays--at least, that is when I have the best luck catching him. Remember: just because *YOU* have formed an opinion and your information is bogus, does not mean the info isn't TRUE!
And, BTW, there are some recent FCC actions regarding this very subject appearing on the FCC website. Simply go to [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. (enforcement bureau) and read about 1 Stop CB Shop, Gambler's CB Shop, and a gentleman in Atlanta, Ga who thought "them FCC guys wouldn't mess with him." All are now crying the blues (oh please, please, Mr FCC man, take away that Notice of Apparent Liability! BWAAAAAAAAAAAA!
While Amateurs do NOT have "authority" as such, they may do the same thing any citizen can do when they see/hear a crime in progress. Just as Mrs McGillicutty can call the cops when there's a burglar in the chicken house, hams MAY report truckers who are found to be yapping on the ham bands without the required license! And that is EXACTLY how truckers have been getting "caught" yapping on the 10 Meter band.
