Recommended external speaker
Fellas, today the internal speaker in my trusty Cobra 21 bit the dust. Don't know why but it has an open coil and not worth repairing. I could probably put a cheap internal speaker in but that's only because I don't know of anyone who sells a quality internal speaker.
Albeit not wanting to clutter up my truck with more stuff, I have begun to lean towards an external speaker. My truck doesn't have a/c which means in the summer time I'm forced to roll down the windows. That means I'll need something that will allow me to hear the radio over the wind noise.
I'm open to suggestions. Thanks.

+2 on the Motorola.
Since the audio is only about 300Hz to 3KHz an inexpensive replacement speaker should work just fine. You might keep it in mind for the next time you have the radio open for something else.
You can get (Cobra?) talkback external speakers. Not sure, but they probably plug into both ext. and PA jacks at the same time. About $25 at Pilot.

Yes Ted that's how a talk back speaker works, it utilizes the PA jack as well as the ext. spkr. jack. In fact, that's how some radios have talk back...by running a resistor across the PA jack and the ext. spkr jack on the inside of the radio. The amount of resistance determines how low or high the talk back will be.
Anyways yes I had a talk back Cobra once, an S500 model IIRC....good little speaker, but I don't need talk back since I don't run echo. But I wasn't impressed with the cheap plastic bracket that Cobra speaker used. I prefer metal if possible. The speaker housing....plastic could suffice.
I'm after something that gives good sound w/o costing a lot. I like that Motorolla...where do you get those and how much?

I figured you knew the mod . . . lol That's why I didn't post it.
Motorola is proud of their speakers - ~$60-70. Lots of Motorola hits on fleaBay starting around $10. Rat Shack has cheap Unidens $6, 9 and 15.
I'd check Fry's, Best Buy etc. Even Goodwill's computer department for $5-10 maybe. That's if you wanta go cheap.
None mentions metal brackets. That's easy to fab up, though.

I was afraid to try this speaker from Skythumper communications and must say I am impressed with it, I personally thing it has an edege over the motorola. Seems to be more natural sounding with less distortion when turned up and comes with a heavy metal bracket and hardware.
