CB radio to walkie talkie

i was wondering if a cb radio could connect with walkie talkies. i remember road trips when i was younger, being able to go to channel 19 and some times hear truckers. But when i tried it... it wouldent work... does it normally?

Re: CB radio to walkie talkie

the usaul problem with walkie talkies as you call it is they have very limited out put power and very limited antennas. you may be able to hear the big radios due to the power output and the antenna systems they use. but you may not be able to talk to them if they are very far away. some of the manufactures make a full legal limit Hand held radio like Midland comes to mind it was a full 40 channel radio in a hand held form. and they work well if close enough.

Re: CB radio to walkie talkie

well, what i'm trying to say is sometimes me and my family go on trips and take 3 cars. my dad and uncle both have hand-held walkie talkies that they use to keep in contact with eachother while on the road. could i use my CB Radio to talk to them at all? a certain channel or something?

But are they on the same frequency? I remember when i put mine in, i tried talking to a 2 way handheld walkie talkie.... with a 12 mile radious, i stood pretty close to the truck, and ... it didnt work... i thought that the personal walkie talkiese were a type of CB... Do they share the same frequincies....?
Anyone know?

Re: CB radio to walkie talkie

What you are talking about are the FRS and GMRS radios. They work in the UHF portion of the radio spectrum........460MHz....a very long way from CB's 27MHz...........

BTW, They are cheap and work much better then CB.
