Re: co truck.. cb.. no reception....

Here's a question, why do you guys spend soo much money on cb's?
I know everybody, loves to have the bigest and badest system out here,
but i just do not get, when most of us drive with it off then we do with it on... personely i hate the things know body talks intellegently on them..... I am not trying to make anybody mad.....I am just wondering????????

If you want to run your CB ......FORGET the garbage COAX & antenna that comes on 99% of new trucks ! Buy your own QUALITY equipment & have it , OR learn to install it yourself !
Yes, Uniden & Cobras ARE good radios ! I don't understand why some guys want EXPORT radios then they only run on channel 19'er. I wouldn't waste my money or RISK getting caught with an EXPORT, especially when I don't need it . YOU DO NOT NEED AN EXPORT radio to talk on 19 DRIVER !

I paid 100 bucks for the radio when I bought it new 3.5 years ago. I picked the model I did primarily because it had two features i wanted, a front mounted speaker, rather than one under the radio, and weather band. Cost me about 60 bucks to get a decent mirror mount, and have the antenna tuned to the radio and have the radio peaked and tweaked at a cb shop. And that's been it. For the 160 I invested, less that 40 dollar a year so far, I have been given warnings of police hiding, traffic problems, directions and alternate routes, and other useful info over the years. I keep it on, volume down, and if the lights light up a lot, I'll flick it up to check in with what is going on.

I don't get on it and run my mouth all day, but it is a useful tool to have in the truck. At least a couple of times a week I see a friend of mine on the road, and will say hello. And I have run with other drivers, and it makes a night go by easier.

Burky,
Good post ! I agree with you 100% on the CB! BTW, I read that you picked a unit w/ a front-firing speaker , what radio did you select?? I have seen some installations where that could really come in HANDY.

First off ....You are right on the money re: the linear, I personally don't feel that I need one . Man, On a clear night (low propagation) & not much skip running I get out 7-9 miles. Hey that's far enough for me! I don't feel like I have to be the loudest guy on the channel !
Like you I am rather fond of FRANCIS antennas , I don't think the new ones are made as good since the BARJAN buy-out but, I usually try a Francis first . If I can get the SWR down to a reasonable reading I ROLL. But , I slip-seat alot & sometimes I can't get the SWR like I want it .....when this happens I have had really good luck with the Wilson fiberglass antennas . They will tune in & give a good SWR sometimes when the Francis will not . tHE wILSON FIBERGLASS can be picked up for about $25 .
