co truck.. cb.. no reception....

ok Just to clarify that.. I get some.. maybe 1/4 mile beyond that all I get is clicks and static..

What I would like to know is what I should get that is mirror mountable to replace the antennas that are in the truck now.. do I need two do I need one? Is the cobra 19<yes 19) the source of the real problem .. help out a guy who at least wants to listen more then 1/4 mile away

This is hard to diagnose from here, but, your antenna system (most likely the coax) is probably your problem here. The Cobra 19 is a disposable radio and the RX can be low on it but they tend to either work or don't work.

Check your antenna studs and coax and if you are running bargain antennas think about an upgrade.

Hey i ise a cobra 19,and works just fine... in the off postion...
I don't see spending alot of money on somthing i never use..
now if i could jut get my girlfriend to adopt that way of thinking. IE: shoes,purses,makeup,tanning,etc.... can anybody tell me if they ever out grow tha behavior? But as to the post my 19 works evertime i turn it on. Output's not soo good, but it does work,so i am thinking it's the antenna's are mostlikely the problem...

Re: co truck.. cb.. no reception....

Try this trick and see if it helps. Run a good ground wire from the antenna mount on the mirror down alongside your coax cable, and ground it to the grounding post where you power your radio. A lot of trucks doors are not grounded well due to the way they mount, and as a result the antenna gets a really lousy ground. I have a Cobra 19 and get 5-6 miles of range easily, but I have always run an extra ground wire on the truck until I got the neww one. The doors and mounts are well grounded in the current Mack, so it isn't needed. My 2000 and 1997 needed it.

Re: co truck.. cb.. no reception....

I don't think that you will find any real problems with the Macks. We have some daycabs in our fleet that are over the 1.5 million mile mark and the engines have never been rebuilt. We typically run our road tractors for 900,000+ miles and have no unusual problems.

I've been in one for 3.5 years now and am happy with them. if I bought a truck right now, they would be on the top two brands list. As for the comparison to a W900, I can't say how they compare since I have never paid much attention to them. The sloped hood always improves the vision from the drivers seat, and the Macks have a nice turning radius. My 2006 turns better than my 97 and 2000 did.

Sorry to kind of hijack a CB thread.

Re: co truck.. cb.. no reception....

If the grouding doesnt do the trick, I would invest in a decent single mount, good coax, and a Wilson silver load or Tiger antenna. I saw an Astatic linear pattern antenna (similar to Wilson silver load), but havent heard anything about them. A good antenna setup makes up alot for a weak radio. Also, you can take it with you if you change trucks.

Re: co truck.. cb.. no reception....

Aww jeeze, Timewalker is that you, the pumpkindriver?lol I know Freightliners with umm "my" company have notoriously bad coax. Ive never used the factory ran stuff on my 2006, as I run my own rig. I did once try it on my first truck, a 2003, and I could get anything within a car length. If you are using the factory junk, follow what these guys tell ya and rig up an external setup on the mirror bracket.

Re: co truck.. cb.. no reception....

why is everyone so persistent about wilson antennas ...THEY ARE OVERPRICED JUNK i use a frances firestik (the orange ones without the wire running up it ) i run a 250 watt kicker with a galaxy 959 which i just got back in the mail and i have never had a problem with any of it well least a problem with the antenna or the coax or the kicker

wilson antenna=50$
frances ..lifetime warranty=15.99$
you do the math
