Better radio would be a Galaxy 99 for me...awesome radio. Good in an off road dump truck? Not so much...they are known for cold solder joints and other problems from rough rides. General Lee is not a poor radio by any means, it will hold its own.
My preference for a dump truck, having driven them myself, is a Cobra 29. Plenty loud when tuned right, not over bearing when at the plant and talking to those within a few hundred feet of you. Plus the smaller chassis equals less board flex for the rough rides. I always ran the 29LX and had a great time.
But to answer you with the options listed, General Lee.southtx Thanks this. -
Thanks for the advice, I am currently running a harley edition cobra 29 and I love it. Most of the drivers I run with are using 10 meter radios though and most run on the plus 10 khz switch, that's why I'm looking to upgrade. t

Just thinking out loud ...
When I worked for the armor center ( Tanks ) we had shock mounts for our radios Now I know this would be far out for CB but I wonder if one could be built for trucks to deading the shock ....... at a reasonable cost .... -
10K Switch is nice if a lot of guys are using it....might look into adding that to your radio by a local tech? Be a lot cheaper than $180+ for a new General, especially if you are happy with the Cobra 29 HD. Could even use one of the stock switches, like the memory channel or something.
Now, to get a little deeper.....what channel are they on when they flip the 10k switch? Its only useful on 5 channels....otherwise it just goes up to the next channel in sequence. 3, 7, 11, 15, and 19 are the only channels where the 10k switch will get you into a new freq. Now if they are changing bands...you will need the General Lee. And possibly a freq display. -
You still DONT KNOW TRUCKING !!

Now. On the other hand, if you operate your radio ON 11 Meters, stay OFF the 10 Meter band, you are unlikely to have any trouble! Just know that there are NO "extra" channels that are available; every frequency outside CB requires some sort of authorization or license to operate it! If you go onto the 10 Meter band---which is likely when you flip those "band" switches, you will one day find a licensed operator waiting to turn you in. It isn't worth it.
But this is simply information you can use to make up your own mind about it. Nobody is trying to force you to do or not do anything with this information. It is up to you.

and when questioned said driver can not produce a device capable of transmission on accused frequencies,IMAGINE THAT!
Like some driver will report to HQ with his radio in tow
Split'them and Sliiiiiide to your hearts content, reported incidents are rare
and seldom.
FEAR NO HAM,muchless the FCC -
And you don't know anything about radio .....
If you did you would know that .......
AND ....
You would know that shock is a problem with more than DUMPTRUCKS ....
