| The term "Crusader" comes to mind. They don't care about dead horses, just about converting the non believers at all costs. |

| And why do you think public information is harrassment?? It would be different if he wasnt so blatant but in my opinion he bragged about it so I looked him up. As far as posting it on this site I apologize for it. Oh well, I know who he is so but I still am not impressed because he puts Hams down for spending all their time on boards such as this. Maybe some of us read fast. Karl |

| why all the bickering I have been reading this thread for awhile and it all seems to be allot of bickerig over nothing. Every one is intittled to hie/her own opinion. I personaly am proud to be a ham and have my call sign in as many places as possible. And as far as learning or teaching the hobbie that each indidviduals right also. I personaly love to help others get into and learn more about the hobbie that i have turned into a proffesion. Yes i get paid for my radio knowledge now and it is a great feeling to know that you can mix the 2 and do some good for allot of people. I started out in CB as allot of people i know did. and there is nothing wrong with CB as long as you keep it in the band where it was meant to be if yo want to comunicate in the HAM bands get the license and open up a whole new world of freinds. Beeing over here in Iraq it has been a great thing to talk to the local Ham operators over here and learn about how opressed they were under there old govt and now can finaly enjoy the hobbie. of course right now it is closed but i feel in thew very near future that will be lifted and we will be able to get back on the air and continue to raise the awareness of the people about the great hobbie. any thing i can do to better the hobie or enhance the membership into the hobbie i am glad to do. enough of my soap opra good luck to all the new hams and good luck to all those that are thinking about it. and if you need any help with technical questions or theroie let me know will be glad to do what i can and share what little knowledge i have. |

| KUDOS to kd5 !!!! Excellent response sir ! If WE all conducted ourselves in this same manner we would all benefit. I enjoy your attitude sir. I think most HAMS did start off on CB , and went from there. HAM radio is unbeaten in providing communication when there are NO hard lines , towers or other ways to carry messages out. I think some folks try to make CB something it is not . For instance CB is mainly for short distance communication and is unbeaten for vehicle to vehicle conversation , & highway information. Personally if I need long distance communication I have a cell phone. I NEVER try to converse on HAM bands when I am on the CB , hey those guys deserve & have earned the right to talk there. I wish more guys had the attitude of HELPING other operators , and truthfully alot of the antenna, noise reduction & interference plague BOTH HAM & CB ops.

| Kudos Well thanks for the Kudos and your right the theroy is the same no matter what band your on the laws of physics and propegation don't change the only thing that changes is the freq. you operate on and what works on one usualy works on the other. So as far as problems with antennas and noise is all the same basicly and i agree the CB band is great for short distance 3 or 4 mile comms that the 2 meter and and some of the FM modes want do with out the help of a repeater. And on that note the GPRS and some of the other radio services they have come out with in the past few years are bridgeing that GAP between the 2 with repeatrs and some neat digital modes so there is allot out there betwen the 2 hobbies if prople will explore it and get out of the mentality that mine is better than yours. It's the argument of which is better Ford or Chevy it depends on what you like and are happy with and what you want to acomplish. Me i like a 10 dollar wire antenna and 5 watts and talk to the other side of the world. I have freinds all over the world to keep in contact with. And when i was driveing across country in the states it was neat to be able to look at the computer screen and see when and where i was going to be able to meet up with one of my freinds for lunch or coffee some where and where every one was so i knew wht band to try and talk to them on. So it is all relevant to what you want. Enough again for my soap box. but try looking this up the next time your bored and see what you think [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. |

| Hey, You have another trucker ham nearby in Mosul thats US licensed. KE4SLC. I do have a BIIIG question though. How are you transmitting to Findu.com? [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. ==>AMATEUR RADIO ACTIVITY SHUT DOWN IN IRAQ Iraq Amateur Radio Society (IARS) President Diya Sayah, YI1DZ, has informed ARRL that all Amateur Radio activity in Iraq has been suspended until the security situation there improves. The ham radio blackout began this week. Sayah says the suspension affects both Iraqi citizens as well as any foreigners, including military personnel and contractors -- who have been on the air from Iraq identifying with YI9-prefix call signs. It does not affect the operation of Military Affiliate Radio System (MARS) stations, however, since they operate on military frequencies, not amateur frequencies. The IARS is informing its member to stay off the air, although some Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) modes like IRLP and EchoLink still are okay to use, as long as they don't involve transmitting a signal over the air. If you are transmitting to Findu via APRS, chances are you are in violation of Iraq law This is from the Iraqi Amateur Radio Society [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. We hereby inform you all members of Iraqi Amateur Radio Society that to stop Amateur Radio wave Activities according to the prime Minister decision until further notice . The IARS will continue its efforts to make it clear to government that the decision they took is Wrong through the official channels until that day we advice all members to stick to the official order. Be careful! 73 Brian P.S. Don't take this as an attack on you. I am just concerned that your activity may make problems for you. Being based in Iraq is bad enough, Any legal problems wouldn't be good for you. Just being concerned for ya P.S.S. Dear Moderators: I don't know what the link policy here is anymore but I thought it might be best for DRX to have an idea of whats going on. I would ask that they not be taken down until he has had a chance to read and become aware of the possibility of problems. Thanks TL |

| IRAQ Yes ke4slc works for me and is real close and we are good friends and have been for a long time. And i am transmiting thru TCP/IP so there are no actual RF broadcast comeing from IRAQ. This was cleared thru Dyia the head of the IRAQ radio club here and it is bad with out my HF rig on the air i have it here and was haveing fun but it will come back around I'm sure and i am also a MARS opertor so its not really a bad deal. Thanks for the concern but it is strictly leagal and will be fine. |

| I'll second the kudos, lets make this forum what it once was....friendly folks helping others....Kudos to Mack too. I agree with Gadfly on many points....He was one of the guys (along with KC0REY, Mack, KD5Drx, and others) that inspired me to get my ticket. If you want to keep your ID private, then that is your perogative. I also started in CB, but I can remeber when CB was alot like the amateur bands. I dont care to participate in it anymore. but that is everyones own choice. I used to really enjoy this forum, andI hope it gets back to what is once was....I hope KC gets back in here too...
