use 19 to monitor truck CB. Note truckers have radios on most of the time, you might have to send a check call to get the attention of a driver in your area.
Sometimes I hear a young kids on 19 playing. remember the driver uses the two-way for communicating to other drivers about road and weather conditions. As a courtesy, please remember drivers are working, unless they are off-duty at a truck stop where they tend to chat.

kwfan558, if I ever pick you up I'll chat with you. However unless skip is going, it's hard to talk from Wisconsin down south to Missouri on the 11 meter citizens band. (CB) Even then sometimes 11 meters is noisy as it easily picks up electrical interference generated from fluorescent lamps, electric motors, lightning, people running linear amps, etc. Furthermore CB is really "line of sight" reliable.

Now add to all of that, there's not as many on the CB anymore, and from what I read, some drivers keep their radios off unless they stumble on a traffic jam or they're at the yard waiting their turn to be called.

If you just want to have friendly chats I'd advise you become an amateur radio operator. I just became one this past July and I'm enjoying it more than I ever enjoyed 11 meters. Not only can you talk farther via the repeaters but also it's FM so you don't have the noise problems associated with AM, which is what CB is.

I've yet to try this but I have been informed by another local amateur operator that 146.520, the national calling frequency, is usually monitored anywhere you go....so if you were traveling cross country, I'd think you should find someone there.

Keep in mind I'm not trying to steer you away from CB, just trying to help you expand your options.
