Sure the people you were hearing were not DX stations? They could have been thousands of miles away in which case chances of them hearing you would be slim and none if you were running bearfoot in a mobile...

Either that, or maybe you were just coming off as "annoying" and people just didn't want to respond back!:biggrin_2559:

FYI...a Cobra 19 is not considered to be a "Power House" of a radio either...It would be considered a "Entry Level" CB Radio...Even tho it does just as many watts as any other CB Radio...

I don't know. I've driven miles on the interstate and sometimes can't get anybody to come back to me. The best way to get a good check is get somebody you know in another vehicle and do a check with them.

Not sure if you will make that run again or not, but I found a decent CB Radio guy at the TA in Montgomery, AL. He charged me 20 bucks for a peak and tune on my Cobra 29. He is up stairs in a small room just past the drivers lounge. You can tell just be seeing him and his work area that he has been doing this for a long time. I can see a good improvement in my radio after.

In 32 yrs of driving, never asked for or responded to a "radio check".

With the huge amount of skip going on lately, a lot of people are either turning their radios way down or completely off. If they are turning them way down then you might have to be less then 1/2 mile from them before they will hear you unless you are pushing some extra power.

I know that my radio is either turned way down or off most of the time these days unless I feel like warming up my box and see who I can reach.
