A friend and I have been debating the need to peak a raidio with an amplifier behind it I say it's a wast of money my friend says do it for better swing or modulation well I'm no expert by any means I do know the basics like swr so on I would like to hear what my fellow cbers have to say on the subject

I've always peaked my radio...some don't. I do. I always get compliments out of my radios. I usually like to have radios where I can adjust things. Primarily my deadkey.
-
So for instance my set up is a galaxy 959 with a palamar 300 as it sets it gets out well great for skip what improvements would be gained and what kind of tune up would be optimal it is a bare bones out of the box raidio with a echo power mic antennas are a duel 4 foot fiberglass models um can't remember the brand they have the copper wire in the center not wraped around the outside
-
I would get with a good tech that can lower your deadkey but gain on your modulation. Boxes usually last longer when you don't slam them with a 10 watt deadkey. If you can get the deadkey down to about 1 or 2 watts and modulate up to about 15, you should be good. 959s are not "hot" radios, but they can do 10, 15, or even up to 20 watts, but no more than that.
Trstanich Thanks this. -
Thanx I'll look into a good tec if I'm able to find one

If you can't find a good one in your area. Look up Rolling Radios. I hear he is a good tech. The tech I use is not officially in business or I would recommend him.

I am not a fan of peak and tunes that remove or modify components.
I do believe some CB radios are not at optimum performance from the factory. They randomly pull one off the assembly line to make sure they are at a certain % +/- of the advertised specification.
So an alignment may not be required for the average user. For the purist, it can't hurt.
So, aligning it for a linear makes sense if components are not changed or removed, since it cannot hurt.
Most of the reasons components are changed, the radio is simply not designed to run with an amplifier. So, again, I do not believe in that type of component change alignment.Trstanich Thanks this. -
Ok im in the belief that radios are bult with certain components for a reason I'm not a fan of removing components for Shure I mean you have an engine in your car you start yanking stuff out of it it's going to effect the engine negatively as an analogy now I've heard other cb teckies talk about alighning not sure what that entails me not having enuf knowledge on radios but would like to have a great sounding raidio not over driven bleeding over every electronic device around but would like my raidio to be skip friendly and ear friendly at the same time without compromising the components of both raidio and linear

Sounds like it might be best to stear clear
of the fast lane, mud ducks have their place too -
It's not about being a mud duck it's About a good sounding raidio without butchering perfectly good system it's about sounding good without bleeding 5 up 5 down it's about having fun maybe learning something more about radios other than just talking back and forth it's about DOING IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME
