I eventually changed my antenna to a Monkey Made, but that wasn't until a little while after I got the new radio. I was running on a single Firestick beforehand.

I just got a 29 classic w/RX and running truck spec or road pro ( not sure just a cheap package from TS) for now, I'm looking at Wilson or K40 so I should get a little more outta it. I'm getting 8-10 miles on a clear day and when the airs not full of this west coast skip that's just picked up. Every1 says it sounds good a few times I've hit drivers just as they were goin by and it was too much but get a little distance and were good.I've heard almost 15 miles a couple times had to turn up RF but it was there. I mounted mine under the cabinet (shaker classic XL) I have it turned a little and with visor down on pass side almost no sun hits it. So far mines not even got warm but I never have any1 to jaw with that long.

Go with the Wilson antenna. They're great, mine works great.

i had one put on a cobra 29 it woks great, its loud and clear. only beef is we are in a lot chemical plants loading and unloading we talk as we are staged and not being able to turn it down is a little much. i back off the mic gain and it helps up close. i also have a connex 3300 that has been peaked and tuned. I've had it for over 15 years and an old boomer 500 watt linear with a predator 10k antennathat will reach out and touch you. i run one for a while in my big truck the other in my pickup then switch em' out both are great.

I'm thinking if this mod doesn't work well up close, something ain't right as it could/should be. -
On my way home earlier today from Laredo I talked to a driver that was about 100 yards give or take in front of me for about 30 minutes. About mid through our conversation I asked how I came across on his end, he stated "Loud and very clear, what radio are you running???". I've never had any issues talking to other trucks up close.
