Are there any good way to boost reception I have a Wilson 5000 tuned to a perfect1.0 so don't bother telling me a better antenna I know there is probably a few better but I would rather have a perfectly tuned one I have a cobra 29 ltd classic so what can I do?

The only thing you can do is clean up the static a little by limiting electro magnetic disturbances like electric motors and altenater noises and to ensure you have the best ground you can get for your radio and antenna brackets

How do I eliminate noise how exactly do I do that? And there's really nothing that can boost reception?

about the only way to do anything to improve it is to get a full wave antenna.

I have had REALLY good luck going to a 5/8 wave steel whip.

But you don't have reception "power". It's all in minimizing noise and if anything, making sure you have a great ground plane.

My 2M mag mount works 10 times better on a 16" pizza pan than it does sitting on the floor in the house.

You can look at putting a small pizza pan at the base of the antenna to see if that would help. cut a hole in the middle of it and just put it in place like a washer.

To actually TUNE the antenna, you'd need a REAL analyzer and then trim the length of the steel whip until you get the correct SWR.

You'd want a power filter (capacitor) in the power wire to address the issues of alternator or motor noises.

his other alternative is creating a dipole.

Yeah, they are long. It's why they aren't used in mobile ops and the alternative is a trapped antenna.

Get ARRL's antenna book are something similar to understand what you need/want to do.

I am not a member of ARRL, just borrowed the book. Lots of knowledge there.

Oh wait, Freebanders don't like taking advice from HAM's though

What type of reception are you getting now? And how far are you trying to pick-up? And you sure the problem is not on the TX unit end? Also there is a Mod that can boost reception by putting in a 2sc2999. But you just saying you need to increase your RX is not enough info to get good help.

The farthest that wasent just static was probably like 10 or 15 miles I'm trying to pick up as far as possible lol. I was thinking about getting a 102'' antenna for my Wilson 5000. But not sure I want to risk giving up the perfect 1.0 swr I got not and I did use a professional meter to tune it my friend works at a truck repair place that's where I had it done. O and what's TX ? And what's a 2sc2999?

    cuzzin it Thanks this.
