Uniden PC78 Elite & PC68 Elite

Ok radio experts......I am looking at the Uniden PC68 & PC78 Elite radios on Priemere Electronics website. The discription of both are IDENTICAL....but I know there must be a difference other than price or there wouldn't be different model numbers....so my question is:

"what is the difference between the 2???"

yes the description is the same, but they do look different. the 78 has more knobs.........i'm thinking a "delta-tune" knob, and maybe a "clarifier" knob at least. i would have thought also that the 78 was a sideband, but it doesn't say that, and i did a google search on the 78 elite, and they are all the same photos too. i can't get any closer look at the knobs and what they say on them.

personally, i "used" to buy the 68 model. but my latest purchase was a cobra 25, for $69.99 on sale at the Pilot. i don't need a weather radio, i just "look out the window" to see what the weather is. then too, i use an am/fm radio for news/weather reports. a weather radio is nice indeed, and i happen to have an old radio shack pocket sized weather radio i carry along.

Basiaclly the 68 is similar to the cobra 25, and the 78 is alot like the cobra 29. Im told the cobras were once built by Uniden, hence the near identical features, but that Cobra got cheap and has a chinese source buildng clones for them now. Somone enlighten us on this?

If I remember correctly, the main difference is the 78 has built in swr checking capability, and a delta tune, which is like a clarifier on a cobra. It is just a control to shift frequency to make off off freq signal sound better. Both are availble with weather channels and back lighting. If youchoose the 78 because of the swr function, I would still use a separate swr meter to set swr at first. The one on the radio is just for ballpark use. At least that has been my experience on a cobra 29 shich is basically the same radio as the 78.

Another difference is the 78 has a built in SWR meter, the 68 does not. Both are very durable CB's IMO , I use & own both . I prefer the 78 when I use it in the big truck (because it has the SWR meter) & I use the 68 in my pickup . I know the SWR of my antenna in my pickup is GOOD. Also the 78 is slightly wider than the 68 , the current models of these have the mic connector on the face plate which is very helpful. Neither has SSB.

The only difference between a 68 and a 78 is the 78 comes with the built in SWR meter and also comes with a high SWR light. Otherwise they're the same radio. Heck I think they even can use the same mods.
