    Blown Finals?

I was hooking up my CB the other day and i keyed up my radio without having my antenna hooked up. I am kinda worried i might have blown my dual finals. I was wondering if there is a way to tell if they are blown or still good. My meter still moves when i TX and still reads 12+ on the power meter. Would my SWR meter still move if the finals were blowm? Would the meter on the radio still move if the finals were blown?

    Thanks for your help.

Typically if the final(s) blow the needle will go backwards when you key.

So if my meter is swinging forward i should be all good? It swings all the way to the read and stays strong up there. I just hooked it up to a power meter and it shows my dead key on high at 10 watts and low at 2 watts so ya think i am good?

that 's not necessarily so. Backswing could be cause by tuning to the wrong side of peak.

rollingradios was talking about the needle dropping in TX due to no or very little output power with defective finals. I should add, as opposed to where the meter needle was sitting in RX at the moment before it was keyed.

a simple rx signal detector is using 2 1n914 diodes , 1 led, one 10uf cap and short piece of wire.

when you TX it will light up the LED with the RF power and when you talk it will get brighter. if interested its not hard to make. less than $5 in parts..
