I bought a new con-x33 yesterday which the shop that sold it to me thought I should run my set-up from the rear of the truck since everything is plastic on the truck. Anyway,to make a long story short I ran new 35 foot of coax from the rear of the truck ,going under the bunk and thru places on the walls to keep it clean. Big single metal coil ant mounted in the rear of the cab. Im not so sure this was a good idea??? Doesn't seem to pick up well!!! Also the ext- speaker seems very low..have to turn it up all the way to hear anything. It was real loud with my other CB. Truck is a 387 pete with ant's- mounted high on each side of the bunk which I wasn't going to try to replace that set-up which looked to be a big PITA.. Instead I went with a single set - up in the rear of the cab..

My thought as well, The factory set up on the antenna's in a 387 isnt very good, JMO, Theres a bracket you can get that will mount on the back of the cab for a Antenna, Seems to work better, make sure it grounded though, Just a thought

Yes, thats what I did. Bought a heavy duty bracket because the ant- is pretty heavy duty. It's mounted on the metal bar in the back of the cab where you have your air line spring cable that supports your air lines, it's mounted on the far right side on the bar. That bar is mounted on the rear of the cab which the cab is fiberglass so that just might be the problem. Ground problem!! Everything is fiberglass on this truck. The only other place back there that isn't connected to fiberglass is the cross bars that support the stacks which aren't level. Could a guy run a ground wire to the bar where I have it mounted?

Ran a ground from the frame to the cb bracket and took a ride on 1-270 to see how it worked which sounded good. Went and bought my self a SRW meter and spent two hours trying to get it below 2.3 and no matter what I tried 2.3 was the best I could get out of it.. Don't like that!! Coax is brand new and ANT- not that old as well!! I thought maybe because it's mounted in the rear with the stacks on each side might have something to do with it? I was looking for a little better than that.

I imagine they meant run a ground to the antenna bracket not the CB bracket.

2.3 is pretty high on the SWR reading. The ground should go to antenna the bracket.
Also testing SWR around any other trucks, buildings or whatever will give false readings on the basic meters.
The 30 ft of coax could cause issues too.
And unless you pull a flatbed the trailer could be a problem.

in the rear of the cab.......bad place for an antenna. that will cause a lot of signal reflection. did you check the SWRs bobtail or with a trailer?

Get the majority of the antenna above the roofline and see if that helps. If it is mounted low behind the sleeper then you are going to have issues, especially if ypu are running a box for a trailer.

    handlebar Thanks this.
