Bleeding radios

I was getting hit by a bunch of mumbling etc yesterday. started going up and down the dial and found two guys chatting it up about 5 away from the channel I was on. I mentioned that they were bleeding all over the place. They said that that is what happens when you run big power. I asked them how much power they were running. 100 watts was their answer. I dang near bust out laughing but held my cool and asked who did their radios for them. One commented that he had his done out in Williston ND and asked why. I told both of them real nicely that they should stay away from that guy in the future because a properly setup radio should not bleed with only 100 watts of output. I said it might be possible if I were sitting right next to them but I was about 1/4 mile away and that should not happen even running more then 100 watts. I told him I was putting out about twice that at the time and they said WOW.I told them that I had an amp that did way more then that but it was not installed in this truck.

Don't know if they got the hint but I could not hear either of them once I got more then two miles away from them. If they did not cut them back then their radio guy is a complete fool because they were not getting out very good, even with "100" watts. I then went on to talk to one of our drivers till I lost him about 15 miles away. Told him he was fading fast at about 15 miles and his last comment was "I don't have a big radio like you" and then it went all fuzzy.

Chances are those guys were running barefoot radios with clipped limiters and all the harmonics on the feel good Dosy are what led them to believe they are running 100 watts. :biggrin_2555:

seems that they visited a golden screwdriver wannabe tech. this is the reason that there are only 2 pros in all of CB land that are allowed to touch my radio. one is a warranty repair center for magnum radios and the other is an out of warranty location that is recommended by galaxy for any out of warranty repairs. one has been in business for over 60 years, and the other close to 20.

That's a on-going problem down here in Dallas, mostly with Mexican rock-haulers....These guys get on channel 2, and travel down the highways within eye-sight of each other talking on radios that bleed 40 channels if your within a mile or two of them...Get close to one you would think he's running a 16 pill, but get a mile down the road from him, and he sounds like he's just talking on a walkie-talkie...

Funny you say that JJD because both these guys were hispanic. There is a grower in the central part of the state that has a hispanic foreman in the yard and they hire alot of down south trucks to come up here and haul spuds. We hate them because they just don't follow the rules at the plant, they come into the scale yard going against the one way traffic, they try to pull on the scale backwards (going the wrong way) and they seem to think they can line jump when it comes to unloading. They get real pissy when they find out that WE have priority since we are the main trucking company contracted into the plant and the plant is set up to unload us and not hopper bottoms.

Funny watching them though, their shifters rubbing the ceiling of the truck, seats litterally on the floor and they are straining to see over the dash.
