if the microphone is for use in your truck, i would advise against that. trucks have (any vehicle in general) a lot of ambient noise. a power mic will simply amplify that and transmit it for everyone else to hear. you need a good static 636 or a road king 56 or a ranger noise cancelling mic for mobile applications.

the reason i listed those 3 as they are designed very different from each other. you will see that they all fit in your hand different ways so you will have to hold each one to see which style fits you the best.

Yeap, I would not waist money on a powered Mic. Most the time they sound like trash unless you have the power turned all the way down anyway. Either that or you have to turn down the Mic gain or Dynamic to get them to sound good again. Kinda defeating the purpose of the powered Mic.

Spend the money on an RK56 or astatic 636 or a Skythumper ST65. All decent sounding mics.

I have ordered them off the internet and paid anywere from 25 to 35 dollars for these Mics.

What are you planning on putting the monkey made on??? (I agree on the mic, RK56 or the Astatic 'almost' equivalent)

I still have the stock mic on my HR-2510. If your cord is split, just put shrink tape over it and rewire the plug back on. No need to get another mic just because of a little problem. Like everyone suggests though,... don't bother with a power mic... they are just noisy and annoying to the rest of us who have to listen to your cab noise being amplified over your voice.
Nothing beats a clean, audible and not over driven transmission. I don't even converse with those Echo Robots... most of the time, I can't even understand them.

Are the Astatic 636's coming out of China as good as when Astatic actually was Astatic and manufactured their own mics?
