I'll answer....
AM and FM are "modes" of operation. Leave it on AM. CB radios do not operate on FM.
The high/low band switch works in conjunction with the band switch.
The band switch allows the radio to operate on different frequencies other than the 40 set aside for CB use.
In short, your Connex radio is not a true CB radio. It is an "export" radio that is not legal for operation within the U.S. It's not legal because it has the capability to go outside the 40 allotted CB frequencies, and also because it exceeds the FCC's 4 watt rule.
IIRC, your radio "should" be set on band D, in high mode, for CB use. Have a friend with an actual FCC certified CB transceiver (Cobra 29, Galaxy 959/979, etc.) that's not been modified for frequency expansion, verify you're on the CB band on D-high. Then my suggestion is NEVER touch neither the band switch nor the high/low switch from there on out.
38 LSB refers to "channel 38, lower side band". You have to have single side band on your radio to be able to go to 38 LSB. Otherwise all you have is ch. 38 AM.
Look at Mike's post. He posted the frequency chart for the Galaxy 66. I don't know that it's quite the same as the Connex 3300 line up. I had a Connex 3300 not too long ago (sold it) and as I recall, once converted (yes the radio has to be converted for CB use) you had to have it on band D in the high position.
However be advised CB runs on 26.965-27.405. You accidentally flip the band switch and you might find yourself on a frequency that's not only CB but might land you in trouble with the FCC as your radio has the ability to talk on frequencies requiring a license.
Here's a good story read of a trucking company in Raleigh NC that was caught using illegal frequencies on their Connex radios....luckily they got off with a warning, but it goes to show, if you're not in the know, what can happen.

On a Connex 3300, the band switch turned all the way to the left, and hi/lo on hi, is the CB band, (D). With the band switch turned all the way to the right, and hi/lo switch on lo, you are in the band right below channel 1 on the CB band, (C). Example: On 19, band switch all the way to the left, hi/lo on hi ,= 27.185; same channel with band switch all the way to the right, hi/lo on lo, you are on 26.735.
This chart shows the map for the 6 band and eight/ten band radios as well as the NorthStar radios. Hope this helps.
Now the 10kc switch is another little friend you should get to know also.
Good article TurboT. I kind of skimmed it, but it looked like they were actually operating in the 10 meter band! As I've said many times, I'll use the "funny channels" but have never transmitted on or near the 10 meter band! Just asking for trouble like this trucking company IMHO.Attached Files:

That's why I say it pays to know what your radios can do and where to talk whenever you buy an export. Your typical Cobras and Unidens don't have this problem unless someone has modded them for extra frequencies. -
hawkjr9,
The chart that Mike linked for you is what your normal 40 CB channels are. Anything else requires a license to broadcast on. You can listen all day long though. As long as you are in this band you can use SSB, the LSB or USB on any of the 40 channels. You won't find any activity except on 37,38,39 LSB usually.mike5511 Thanks this. -
OK I am looking for a manuel for my connex - CX 3300 fhp. I don't know how to work this thing

Make sure the band switch is on D and don't take it off. Find a buddy with a Cobra 29 and ask him if he can hear you when you're on 19 on the D band and while he's on 19. If so, then it means your radio is converted and again don't take it off the D band,......it will only put you on a frequency you wont know of and possibly land you in trouble with the FCC.
Anything else you want to know just ask here. -
It has a frequency counter I think it was made in 2011 I bought my dad the HP model 3300 mine is different
