I was looking at the RF limited CR577 for an upgrade. I assume it doesn't have a noise cancelling circuit. Does anyone here run one in their truck while going down the road or should I just stick with the Turner RK56?

In a big fan of the road king. But it's a personal decision against astatic mics mainly.

Yeah roger that. Astatics sound very tinny and thin. TURNER Road Kings are hard to beat, almost like having a power noise cancelling mic. However I like the idea of having a tone control. I haven't heard of any drivers runnin 'em. Just 4-wheelers and base stations. Thanx

I'm running one in my truck, and I have tested the back ground noise vs. the RK 56, Astatic 646, and the Ranger SRA 198. Believe it or not the CR 577 has just as good noise canceling property's as the others. I run a Magnum S-9 with the mic gain at the 1 o'clock position and the power level on the mic is set on 2, it will go up to 10 but anything beyond 3 starts to over modulate. This mic hands down sounds crisper and cleaner while being bassy at the same time than any other mic out there. The tone control on the mic sounds crisp on all settings but at the 1 position it's all treble, as you go up on the settings it starts to ad bass without loosing crisp highs. I don't have a Berry White deep voice so I have mine set on 10. Sounds incredible.

CR-577, hands down. It has a variable tone control so you can dial it in for your voice. As far as mics go, of what's currently available for new purchase, I've tried just about all of 'em. The only ones I haven't tried are the echo and "toy" mics, because I have no interest in any of that crap.

In my truck right now, I have a CR-577, a Ranger SRA-198, an Astatic 636, RD104E (Road Devil) and D104-M6B, a Mobiletronix MT56B, and a RoadPro PS-3004. I also bought a new Road King, and returned it in the same week. Sounded about as lousy as the RoadPro PS-3004, but cost twice as much.

And since buying the CR-577, the rest of 'em are just collecting dust. I'll probably sell 'em all off, except the Ranger.

I keep my mic gain wide open on the radio, and have the volume on the CR-577 set to about 1-3/4. Tone stays at 10.

Before buying a "NEW" Road King 56....There's something you may want to consider first...

This is a WARNING from the people who make the Road King 56...
This is the Mic in question:
This is what the back of the package the Mic comes in look's like:

    Now read the fine print:

"Warning, This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm."

Don't think I can ever remember seeing a warning like this on anything else remotely "CB" related...specially something you hold up to your mouth!

    "Say AHHHHHHHHHH"

I just picked up one of the newest RK56s. Audio quality is night and day vs. the last new RK56 I bought, which got returned promptly. This one, however, won't be going back...unless the cord fails prematurely. This one has the cord with the metal jacket, though. It's the Chrome one.

I still recommend the CR-577 over it, however. Of all the mics I've tried, in terms of audio quality, the CR-577 is king.

As for that label...it's for the petroleum and other chemicals in the plastic and rubber. Technically, anything sold in the state of California is required to have that label if the materials in either the product itself or its packaging contain those chemicals. Also, I'm pretty sure California itself has that label, just sayin'... :p

I've got two, maybe three, of the Astatic 636 mics that have the old RK 56 guts in them......work real nice!

Have they changed something on the RKs, or did you just get a good one?
