Get yourself an RCI 2970N2 and dont look back. I own the Stryker955 and I am disappointed in the audio on transmit and receive. I love my Cobra29LTD Classic but it doesnt do SSB. My Galaxy radios suck on SSB. I also have an RCI 2950 and it is the same as the N2 but with less power. If you want a no hassle, top of the line, last radio you will ever need, get the RCI2970N2. Call Bells and you wont regret it.

I just love you how most of those commenting on this radio don't even own one. I do, and I'll give you my 2 cents! The radio goes up to nearly 31 Mhz, so it more than covers the 10 meter band. I happen also to be a ham and can tell you this radio far out performs my 2950. I love the fact that I can change if my "fine" clarifier works on RX/TX or just RX, on my 2950 it only works on RX. Receive is better, transmit is great on AM & SSB, my 2950 isn't the greatest on AM. If you like to have a lot of options or features I'd recommend the SR-955HPC, it's light years ahead of the 2950DX. My ham buddies on SSB were shocked when I told them what radio I was using, they couldn't believe it was a "10 meter radio".
I've got a friend that's not exactly a radio guru, and he even likes the Stryker. What sold him was the essential controls are all available either on knobs or switches so he doesn't need to use the function menu. I'd be willing to bet that most of the people that pass judgment without even using the radio would like it if they had one.
Thanks for listening, that just my opinion on it as someone that actually owns one!darthanubis, rabbiporkchop and aimhigh Thank this. -
I'm just wondering radioman, why is it that these radios are cheaply engineered and made with old technology?
I mean just look at the schematic and compare it to a well engineered HF radio, seriously I looked and saw a fixed bandpass filter with diode tuning to attempt to cover a broad spectrum. Shouldn't there be more than one band pass filter?rabbiporkchop and Big_m Thank this. -

I actually had someone recommend I get one of these, since I sold off my Magnum Omegaforce. I read they will do 10 and 12 meters but are cumbersome due to not having a full VFO. Might be ok on CB though.

Well, according to the FCC, this radio might be illegal when the CB Range is added. I was looking into a 10 meter radio, but, I was looking for something that covered as many frequencies as possible. I wanted to use the radio in mobile mode for the times when I go to the Deep dark areas of Canada. Hoping to have the ability to get help if I needed to because i was stranded.
I know I have to obtain a amateur license, but, I don't know what happens with a US FCC license when you are in Canada.
Regarding CBs, My Cobra GTL blew up. I am using my backup Cobra which seems to be working fine for now. I like my other radio with SSB. Never used it, but, it seemed to work just fine when it worked. I tend to be long winded, so, maybe I blew the finals on the unit. I need to find a CB show to fix it on the west coast in the Nothern CA area seeing is that's where i'm headed. It's good to have a spare CB on board.. -
With a US amatuer radio license you can operate in other countries that have recipricle agreements with the US. You may have to add identifiers letters or numbers to your callsign as the country requires.
