Galaxy 959 DX Flamethrower....Worth $320.00 or no?

Do you have a link to this "Flame Thrower" radio? I can't say for sure but I would have to say it is advertising hype.I believe that peak & tunes, swing kits,NPC/PPE mods,Sparkified,megatuned,whackpacked,fudgepacked or whatever they are calling there service, serve no purpose other than to lighten your wallet and line theirs.Sure you can get a few extra watts on a watt meter but can the receiving station actually tell the difference.... doubtful.

 

get this model or the next one if you want to dump 300 bucks in a galaxy radio.

 

the 959 can be bought brand new for around 100 bucks. there is no way you can convince me that the radio has 220 bucks worth of modifications. dont waste your money. all the radio will ever have is 3 bands. thats 40 below and above the reg 40 channels.

I have seen them sold for anywere from 150 dollars to 180 dollars. I would not give him more then 25-45 dollars for his upgrades.

 

the "Schottky" receiver mod costs 25 bucks and takes a reputable tech about a half hour to remove the old components and install the new ones then the tech has to readjust the radio.

i recently bought a connex 3300 off craigslist. it was not modulating. i had the exact mod done by my tech here in chattanooga, and he changed all the electrolytic caps and converted the radio to the MOSFET final (single final radio) for another 25 dollars.

and the vibration thing? a joke. all one can do is add extra glue inside the radio and a select piece of foam here and there and use loctite on the chassis screws.

and the remark i made earlier about the channels, is true. you can either jump the chip or install one of the viagra boards. all it does is add the low and high band above the regular CB 11 meter band.

for the money, you would be better off buying and having an old uniden president 2510 reworked. much better radio and those are true performers. ask anyone who has owned or still owns one.

 

i wouldent bu ur radio off ebay ive had nothing but bad luck going that route better off buying directly from manufacturer or a reputable cb shop and having said cb shop doing the work save money in the end if u shop around

I could go to Pilot truckstop this month [December 2012] and purchase a new Uniden PC 68 with a warranty card for $80. That would leave me $240 for amplifier and mods. $320 just for the radio. Ahhh, no I would not buy the "Flame Thrower". But, that is just my opinion.
