Question about CB Radio's

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong area, but I am wondering how many here have cb radios. Yes I am finally getting into the o/o side, but having been with a local/regional company for the last 5yrs with no cb, I am now wondering if I really need one. I've got a cellphone, and a laptop computer. Do I really need the added hassle of the trash that happpens with the cb?

The last time I owned one was around 1994 or so. The crap that was on there then was enough to make the devil ask for christ's forgiveness.

What I am asking, is this, as an o/o; is it an important to have a radio?

Well guess what, you aint missed much!lol. Its just as bad if not worse to be honest. To answer your question, I dont think it matters whether your an O/O or company driver like me, if your OTR, I suggest having it there, if nothing else.. just in case. Theres still areas of no cell service, though not many, and sometimes the driver next to you can be more helpful then the friend 3 states away on the cell. Case in point.. yesterday in Memphis, Tn, some semi driver took the corner on I55 just after the river too hard, rolled her over and she went up like a camp fire. They had to fight the fire from the opposite side of the highway, so I55 was shutdown. If you have your cb on, you know this already and quickly take the bypass route before you get caught in a hopeless log jam of drivers who were taught to leave that left knob in the off position. If your an O/O, you know already that you arent gettin paid for holdin the highway down. That one incident could almost pay for the cost of the cb by itself. Nuff said.

with the amounts of money truckers spend on laptops, cell phones, GPS systems, snacks, all you can eat buffets, parking fee's, showers, fuel, satelite radio, and everything else, why not spend under $100 dollars for a good cb radio/antenna if for only traffic reports up ahead....???

you can always turn it off................

Hey thanks guys, I guess I will go out and purchase one. Probably my old stand by, the cobra 29ltd. I am sure that this would do me quite well.

My last company, you could have one if you wanted it but even though the truck was assigned, there were nights I would come in for work and my tractor would be gone. This is why I currently don't have one, and was unsure whether or not to buy one.

Get yourself a slip seat rig. Theres mounting brackets that use vise grips, so they can be removed fast. Ok, looks a lil hokey, but cant beat it. Cobra 29ltd, or if you can find an old uniden grant xl, those are prized. Unidens are supposed to be a cut above cobra, but alot of that is a chevy vs ford kinda thing. Get a wilson silver stick antenna 5/8 wave, 5' if you can find them, and best coax you can get.
