If the importer is a wholesaler that has them manifested for export only or government/law enforcement use, then they won't be stopped by customs.

They can legally be sold to licensed hams. However, there is no requirement to prove the buyer is licensed. And yes, when the FCC needs to make some money (or score some political points), they nail some CB shop for selling modded radios.

hey Farm Trucker...........check in having the Shottkey receive mod done also. it involved a tech changing a few parts in the radio to better quality ones. it drastically reduces line noise. i had mine done this summer and during the peak of the day when the noise is the highest, i have about a 3db reduction in noise. its darn near silent at night.

it takes a good tech about half an hour to do the mod and it costs around 25 bucks at most shops.

If you are worried about breaking the CB rules then you may want to unhook that RM Italy amp because it is not legal for even a ham to use on the 11 meter bands.

    mike5511 Thanks this.

I was looking at those but i went for the 959 because it was cheaper. The other night on 2 meters a guy said when he first got his license someone gave him an icom 730. he said he didnt use it so he gave it to me. i was very happy. I got my ham license in november and am upgrading to genral soon. not bad for only 15 years old. I am a ham but i still have a 100 watt amp and have made contacts to texas wisconsin montanna and florada on 38lsb. am saving for extra channels. i need to change farm trucker to KB1YXE someday.

I'd rather have a radio that had the bands already in them than use a viagra board. (I have both). JMHO.....

any reason behind that besides the limit the 959 has with the viagra board? i believe the new version gives one lower and one upper band. the 88 and 99 have 8 bands.
