hello I'm am having some trouble with my cb radio, it is a uniden pc78 elite and I can't seem to get the antenna warning light to go off. I tried getting new coax cable and antenna (firestik trim to tune) to try and resolve the problem. it slighty did but only from channel one to maybe six. I tested the swr and the antenna needed shortened so I cut an 8th of an inch off and then retested. reading were still slighty high. after cutting another 8th an inch off the swr said that the antenna was to short. I am just spinning my wheels trying to figure this out and was wondering if someone could give me some advive. SHOULD I BUY AN ANTENNA THAT IS TUNEABLE SO I DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE CUTTING OR SHOULD I ADD SOMETHING TO THE EXISTING ANTENNA TO MAKE IT LONGER?
should I lengthen antenna or buy new

Add a ground strap

if you are using the internal SWR meter, that is the problem. i trust those antenna warning lights about as far as i can throw the radio. never rely on the built in meter on any radio. i dont care if it is a $900 Icom. external meters are the only way to go IMHO.
Airchuck Thanks this. -
