I just recently bought an 07 Pete 387. Mine like all other of these has a terrible ground. I dont want to drill a hole in my truck to move the mount down to metal. And I know putting a antenna behind the truck causes me to lose plane. Can I run a ground wire from the antennas or the radio itself to the frame and fix this? Any help is appreciated.

I run a ground from my radio straight to my frame on my truck...its a Mack , not a Peterbilt though. Then if you have a mirror mound , try running a copper braid from the frame to the inside of the door where it closes?

My pete doesnt have mirror mounts, its the aerodynamic one, the antennas are mounted on the side of the truck in fiberglass. Very dumb design. I just dont want too tear my sleeper apart to remount them or drill a hole in the side. I may try the ground from radio to frame and see how it goes. Worst case my radio frys an im back too square one. Where did you run the cable to on the frame?

When I was looking for spots to run it under the hood , I noticed that in the boot where the steering rod goes in through the firewall , mine had a hole in it big enough to run the wire through and down the frame by the firewall/cab. I found a bolt , took it off , grinded the paint and sanded it down to the metal and bam , had my ground.

Grounding the radio to something is a good idea, but
it does not help the problem at the antenna.
Short braided straps from the antenna bracket to non DC ground
    is best.

Thanks, Ill give the mount a shot, it seems the least invasive. Does it stick out far enough to keep the antenna from slapping the side of the truck in a cross wind?

hope that answers your question. this is probably the best way to go. that and it doesnt alter the fascia of the truck at all. no extra holes or anything. dont make too many jacked left hand turns or you might have a problem. other than that it looks like it sticks out about 2 or 3 inches.

The bracket is probably the easiest solution. But if you could run a good single coax from the driver's side antenna direct to the radio. And maybe a ground wire from the antenna bracket to the frame, like the Cascadia drivers have done, I think that might solve your problem as well......FWIW
