Man I love the Strykers that I have heard. I have a friend who has a new stryker in his truck (Can't remember the model) and a Palomar 600 and that thing sounds sweet! Very clear and very loud (yes, Gadfly, I said it sounded clear and loud :biggrin_2553:).

Personally, at some point I would like to get my base station set up and take my Galaxy 44V out of my truck and use it as a base radio and then put a Stryker in my truck.

And your NOT GOING TO HAVE ANY LEGAL ISSUES!!!

Don't let Gadfly bother you. The FCC is not going to come find you and confiscate your radio, oh excuse me

... as Gadfly says it.... "Them thar FCC suits ain't a gonna come out of them thar offices ta come and a take your dead blasted cb reddio"

Sorry, apparently either Gadfly thinks that everybody that uses a CB talks this way or either he really enjoyed the movie "deliverance" too much and tends to pronounce words like this on an everyday basis... i'm not real sure.:biggrin_25512:

Go to www.fcc.gov/eb Scroll down to "amateur enforcement actions" on the left. There are a number of actions against hams, utilities, and CBers for operating ON or interfering with the 10 Meter band. In most of these citations, the operator is admonished for unlicensed operation and using uncertified equipment. YOU be the judge. Are you willing to play "Russian Roulette"? Is it worth $10,000 to you? Its a gamble! You might even get away with it for awhile. But like those people cited by FCC, it suddenly gets hard to shell out hard cash over a silly radio.

As to the licensed hams, we don't really don't care what you do between 26.965 and 27.405. That's your territory that all citizens are allowed to play on so long as they abide by the rules. Trouble is, it is a curious phenomonon (sic?) in that is the CB "hobby" that seems to want to take THEIRS and other's turf, too. And that's the rub. The CB outlaws add "channels" they are not allowed to have, the so-called "technicians" turn and twist knobs, telling people they're gonna make 'em "loud 'n proud", they land up INSIDE the 10 Meter band (or splattering into it with a butchered radio), and the hams go out and FIND the culprits to turn them in to the Feds!!!!! Then the CBers moan and squeal about how unfair it is, how mean them hams are for turning them in, BUT WHAT DO you EXPECT?
STAY on your own turf, STOP splattering into others legal areas, stop thinking you've got "special channels" when they actually belong to somebody else!!!!!!!

I have a 3 month old Stryker 490 that was tuned but no added amp. I also have an old AM-COMM DSP(clear speech) speaker plugged into it and into the 12v(they must have a 12v source to work)port on the dash. My receive is outstanding with this combo. I hear very far off signals clearly.

The Stryker talks very well too. I use either a Wilson SW-2000 Trucker or a Predator 10K antenna mounted through a Breedlove, Q/D mount mounted on the front bed rail of my 2001 F150 Lightning.

EDIT: Sorry for the double pic.

I like my Stryker, works very well. The only complaint I have is the very bright blue LED lights at night time. One of these days I need to pull it apart and add a resistor to dim those lights a bit.

Yeah I've heard of Strykers. Never have owned one but have talked to a trucker that had one. She was only hitting me at a 7 from 2 miles out. Sounded IMO about like any other "good" CB radio. Others swear by their clarity. And also swear at the bright blue lights they have.

I put a little square of window tint on my Connex channel led and meter to knock the blue light down a little bit. Looking at the picture of the Stryker, I don't know if that would work or not, it looks like maybe the whole front of it lights up.
