I was in West Memphis Ark. radio shop and saw this radio called Stryker. It is a very good looking radio and of course the guys there talked it up really big but I have never heard of it. I was just wondering if anyone knew of it and if it is a good radio.

Well I don't know if it a good radio or not but chances are it is an illegal radio. If you are interested in possibly you or your company being issued fines up to $10,000, then go ahead and get it.

Just thought Id beat Gadfly to the punch.....lol

It has to do with something called Type Acceptance.

I have to quote myself in this post:

The above quote was found in this thread:
    http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...io-shop/17155-best-10-meter-converted-cb.html

This apples to ALL 10m single band radios. The specs for the Stryker are almost identical to Magnum radio's. There is a list of banned export radio's but I currently do not have a link to it. When I have a little more time, I will look into it and see if I can post it here.

The primary reason the radio's are banned is because in addition to the specs not being legal for CB operation, they radio's are also very easily converted.

Like I said before, the radio I have now works pretty well, I just like the cool options that come standard on the more expensive radios. I like the blue LED channel number back light and wanted to be able to have a little more power to talk a little further. I checked with the cb shop in Wildwood, FL about putting the LED's behind the knobs and they wanted $160 to do this. It looks cool, but not that cool. And no, I don't have money burning a hole in my pocket, not anymore that is, I just had full stainless rear fenders put on my truck and a few other mod's, so that took care of the extra money situation, come on back!

I had a General Lee from Radioactive radios once, before I knew they were illegal, as is the Stryker. The blue channel readout lasted less than a day, Mike fixed it for free, but it had a something rattling around inside the radio after I got it bacl. I finally managed to shake it out thruough a hole and it was a star washer. Now Mike (radioactive radio) claims he is a great technician and the forum he supports thinks he is a god, but I wouldnt think that is real quality work. IMHO stay away from the 10 meter radios, most are junk, poor quality, and not to mention, illegal. Spend your money on a Cobra or Uniden, a good antenna and coax setup, and will work well for you for a long time.

There are some out there that have a switch on them for noise cancelling and they do help some. The real noise cancelling speakers are very expensive mine was around $180.00 but it works real well on SSB in the ham bands never used in the AM mode so don't know if would help or not. if you find some one that has one all you can do is try it if they are willinhg to loan it to you. Its called a CLEAR SPEACH and i haven't looked at them in a while so don't know what they are going for but they do allot of good on SSB like i said but never checked them on AM. As for a good noise cancelling microphone the turner telex road king 56 is about as good as they come and have been around for ever and allways work good. I have seen in this forum where there are some knock offs out there now or less quality ones floating around so do your home work well.

Here's a good way to tell the thing is illegal or not. If it calls itself a "10 Meter 'Amateur' radio, it is likely that it IS against the law IF:

1: It LOOKS like a CB but calls itself an "Amateur" radio (NOT!)
2: It has a chrome or black face.
3: It has 'bands' of "channels (REAL Amateur radios do NOT have "channels") In the REAL Amateur radio world it does not take "bands" of so-called 'channels' to cover ONE band to wit, the international Amateur 10 Meter band!:biggrin_25513:

4: It has echo and roger beep (shudder)

5: It is easily converted to CB

6: It boasts of power BEYOND 4 watts.

7: Did I mention that if it LOOKS like a CB? Oh yeah, I did!

And, finally, in the list above, the biggest give-away is the BANDs of channels. So if you go into the CB shop and see one of those, chances are, it's illegal!!:biggrin_2556:

The radio is very Noisy on the RX side. But you can get a little over 50 Watts with just a Alignment swing that is.The worst complaint is the RX being very noisy. They are supposed to be working on a SSB Radio that fixes the RX and is supposed to be a very good radio but havnt herd a thing about it.
