Never say never. Not having one, you'll never know. I can think of several times I said to myself, "Good thing I had the radio on."

Following that logic, maybe you should only wear a seat belt if you plan on crashing into something?

Traffic feeds on gadgets is a joke. It's usually delayed by at least 15 minutes and has no precision. Looks cool though. A report on the CB is right now and up to date. Unfortunately 99% of what you hear is debate on the merits of our President, the Zimmerman trial, or just straight up nonsense. I usually drive with mine on low enough not to be annoying and turn it up when I hear the chatter get busy. Sometimes it's urgent information I can use, sometimes it's a race war. Never know. LOL.

I agree. Most of what I hear are those same things and to add to that since in a girl a lot of times ill hear drivers ask me on the cb if I can flash them. I keep mine on low but when I get near cities I turn it up a little.

Now see, I never miss the entertainment value of talking crap when someone says something that stupid. Just tell them they couldn't afford the show, that is if their weak, old heart could stand it LOL. Alternatively, getting religious on them can also shut that discussion down. Or make it even funnier, depending on how clever they are. Start telling them how they need Jesus in their lives, quote some scripture, ask about their church, etc. Only the most hardcore will even try to keep up with that.

I'm opposite, like mine low in city, set high for long distance calls in rural areas. Not seen many women behind wheel I'd ask, take that as hell of a compliment! Flash me pls? LOL

I keep posting in thread only cause its pet peeve of mine... last month could have saved UPS driver job b4 he rolled 2nd trailer next to me, and twice in my career have called out fresh accident with bodies in road, and watch as drivers swerve to avoid debris... not sure if they ever knew it was a person lying there.

I was talking with my brother in law, who currently drives for England trucking....he happened to be passing thru and we met for lunch. I asked him about if he even uses his CB, as some truckers don't even run one....he says "oh yeah I have to have mine on".

My 2 cents....the CB has helped me a few times...when they'd rattle off the speed traps 10 miles out, I'd be prepared, would have my cruise set to the limit well before the area the cop was at....yet I don't know how many people I would watch fly past me, then slam on brakes at the last second.

There's also been a few times at a truck stop listening to the radio rambos threaten to whoop each others ##### on the radio, calling each other names, etc....I got one heck of a gut busting laugh at the expense of their silliness.

You might need some thick skin and a high dosage of tolerance with a CB.

You can thank the FCC for the abundance of smart ##### out there, for creating a monster they couldn't tame. You can also thank them for picking a frequency known for skywave propagation.

Lol, you're spot on driver. As a daycab, no radio MF'er I would like to apologize to all the otr drivers out there. After 15 years of driving local in SoCal you start to get a sense of what's going on around you. You learn how to get around obstacles as quickly and as hassle free as possible. It might seem rude and not make much sense to you but it is how we survive out here in the jungle. You're just passing by, we're here everyday. The drive from Orange County to Ventura during the afternoon rush is already a nightmare without having to listen to the crap that comes out of the cb. This is my home turf and I know how and where to get help when I need it.
    :biggrin_255:

It's all about safety. If the cb keeps you safe then by all means use it.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone is still running a CB. Used to be you could hear the truckstop 25 miles away, tonight I rolled past 3 of them and it was dead quiet. What the hell is everyone doing? Playing with their laptops and smartphones?

Doesn't anyone give bear reports any more? Yeah, I know... the speed limit is higher than a lot of trucks will go but ####- we all know that there are a million things we can be stopped for besides speeding- if you see a bear, get on the mike and say something ######!

Sure there is a lot of garbage on it. When it gets too bad I turn it down or off.

Hell, better than half the drivers in my own company don't run a radio.

Remember folks: tablets, GPS and smartphones are great tools, but they require someone else's equipment for them to work. CB works all the time, no matter where you are.
