so ive been driving a couple years now. I change trucks a lot with my current company so i often don't have a cb until i get back into my usual truck or get one installed in whatever truck i'm driving . I drive 10 year or older trucks now and really only want a cb in case i lose a tire or something that i don't realize and hope someone will tell me when they drive by lol. I do have a trucker garmin GPS and to be honest it is more reliable then most of the guys you ask on the cb. In my opinion there is way too many smart ##### on the cb. It's really hard to just get an honest answer or talk to someone who doesn't think they know everything there is to know about everything. it is nice to have a cb when you do happen to find someone you can talk to if driving all night or something. It does help you stay awake but then you get those obnoxious annoying people now and then. i've noticed when I am in a situation where i want to find dirctions around a wreck or something you have guys either arguing about politics or just bding idi0ts . As far as my traffic on the GPS the only time it isn't much help is in the middle of the night if a wreck happens. They must not update except during rush hour times. The other main thing that bugs me on the cb is an hour won't go by without someone saying , "it's just not like it used to be out here" That back in the day crap has always been a huge pet peeve of mine. In my opinion you need to make the most of where you are today and enjoy every single day you are alive, whether it's driving a truck, singing in a band or whatever it is you do .. anyway just my thoughts

The cb still has its place in trucking but that place is getting smaller and smaller. None of our trucks in our terminal has a cb. We have no interest in putting one on.

Mine is on when tires are moving. To me having it off is like running shoes without shoelaces. i really don't understand the logic of not having-using one..... more the once i have avoided trouble by hearing someting like "It's blocking granny lane just over that rise/round the corner" and being to react to it whilst the truck behind tries to pass me since i started slowing down

I just dont see a need for one. I can't ever recall being on a situation where I said to myself "sure wish I had a cb". I got plenty of driver friends who drive at all hours, so I can just tack away on The phone. Google maps has a real time traffic indicator for free, so why need someone else on the CB to tell me. Never once had a shipper or receiver refuse to call me. Never had a blowout I didn't hear or feel. It's just an extra piece of junk that would clutter my truck.

I listen probably more than most, but thats just the way we used to do it LOL. And I laugh... when I'm getting off the big road when they just said 10 times the road was shut down, and u keep driving... then turn on radio to ask what happened?

It saddens me when I hear this, but understand entirely...Its certainly the most annoying piece of equipment you'll ever own, but its golden when it saves your arse!

CB had it's place in time...Now days you just have better and more reliable options for road and other info.... Doubt the CB will totally go away anytime soon, but it's become more of a Toy or hobby item than a "Tool"...

I will admit it's nice to have one in the truck tho...comes in handy on long road trips to pass the time, but I would not consider it a "Tool of the Trade"...

Never sat behind a wreck looking at traffic on the frontage road.... or wondered what lane is open ?

Had it on for miles and not a peep from anyone until you are passed the point of no return. Stupid gps gave me heads up many miles before and I simply thought it was nuts.

Side note: It burns my arse when you day cab / no radio MF'ers see the trucks moving out of a lane <--- they got CB's you idiots! and figure I'll take their spot and ride it to IDK what.. you cause more problems than your worth out there.

The 'I'm all about myself attitude' needs to stop! BTW take your dang stinky foot out from the window and reach 5 inches to flash you lights. God dang driver mills and foreign euro drivers piss me off... I'm done ranting now, feel much better. hahaha

PS. Not aimed at OP, or anyone particular. Just needed to vent.
