Whats you favorit mobile antenna?

I have used several different types of antennas. Most replaced for being broken off or stolen I'm just wondering what you all think the best is. If you want to list something that no one has heard of thats fine but I'm thinking more along the line of what we can for the most part find in most truck stops or CB shops. I personally am now running a single K40 (looks like a Wilson 2000 design). I have had duel Wilson fiberglass (firestick) 5' whips ( broke off). I am constantly told my radio sounds good and I talk farther then I hear so I'm not worried about getting out farther I'm just wondering what you all like. As it is I talk about 15 miles in the right conditions (NE, TX, exct.) I'm happy with that.

Wilson has a flexible Silverload that would get out similar to a properly tuned Firestick, they are both 5/8 wave. They also have the regular Silverload up to 5 foot, These also have the tunable tip. A Firestick II has a tunable tip.

Francis are 1/4 wave fiberglass, that are tuned to an 18 ft piece of co-ax, they are available up to 5.5 ft 4.5 is about right for most trucks so you don't bounce them off of every bridge and overpass.

I don't use co-phased antennas, there is less to go wrong with a single setup and the single is easier to tune.

I have seen the coil antennas lose the whip. These are for high power usage, the fiberglass whips wont take as much power.

I honestly feel the 5/8 wave antennas get out much better than the others, I don't know about receive.. I use SSB largely because they receive farther.on AM as well as SSB.

Iceratt reputation is Neither Here Nor There
Ive used plenty of different ant.'s and have settled on the wilson silverload. They seem to perform best for my application and I wouldnt trade it for anything else.

I'm currently running a wilson 2000 with an 18 ft. coax on an enclosed car hauler. I have it mounted on a handle and angled out so the tip of the whip is past the nose cone. It works, not great, but it works. I can get out about a mile and a half give or take. If I have a car in the cone, I don't get out as well. Another driver has a francis single whip with the same coax and is having better success. I may switch over to that if I really find the need.
