Ok im a noob no doubts there but not a idiot lol i hooked a cb up in my truck that a friend gave me carefully checking polarity and all hell broke loose lol it started to smoke then the inline fuse popped and it was D.O.A. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is salvageable for a decent price it was a nice older midland radio that was clear as a bell and reached way out there before it bbq'ed. the power wires inside melted and a small black spot on the bottom of the circuit board is what i saw inside
Help need advice guys an gals

The good news, it may well be easily fixed, but ...
the bad news is that someone may have messed with it before and the protection was removed which would have fried the entire radio. -
I'm not trying to insult you here, but did you double check the power lines were hooked up correctly ground to ground and so on. The reason I ask is my radio just smoked some parts inside, a both shops asked me that question so apparently it's a common problem.

Some CB's have a protection diode inside, that when the polarity is reverse, will short out and blow a fuse, etc. inside the radio to save it from further destruction.

All CBs have the protection diode, it is easily fixed if someone knows where it is and how to properly use a soldering iron. The diode goes across the positive and negative voltage source and acts like a fuse.
Any 1N4001 diode will work.
There is a way to add a diode into the positive line to even prevent this from happening but it drops the voltage by .7 of a volt so you will see your power reduced. -
Ok thanks for the replies guys and gals and yeah i checked to make sure red to red black to black lol im going to try and get it to a shop here soon to take a peek at her.
