Just picked up a used uniden pc78ltw. Shop said it was peaked and tuned, and larger mosfet final. Is there a way to verify said work? Radio was purchased cheaper than I could buy a brand new one for from Little Rock petro cb shop. Is he reputable?

Don't know about the shop, most of this work a monkey with a screwdriver can do with CBs now so I suspect it was done as he claimed.

As for confirming what was done, the only way is either watch him do the work or have it checked with an accurate watt meter.

you can purchase a watt/swr meter from Ratshack or TS, nice item to have... however trying to verify someone's work, the only way is to take it to another shop. If you get good radio check I wouldn't worry much.

A good tech could verify it. I've heard good and bad about the shop in the Petro in Little Rock. I know the folks working in the oil fields are bringing their radios to the tech I use, and he is a lot further away from them the Petro in Little Rock........FWIW...... (Mosfet finals are a negative IMHO)

It works well, for what I paid, it was worth it.

There was a guy trying to sell a pc78 in OKC Sunday night and he claimed to be the "tech" that had P&T'd it. IT sounded like crap at only 3 miles. Could be antenna, who knows, but he got busted out by several saying that if the radio that he was talking on was the one that he was trying to sell, they would PASS.

Might be a good radio, but his wasn't

Hello forum.. I have been reading the threads and I figure this is a good place to post. Recently started driving a truck (yep, truck driving school at CWW Colorado, driving for Stevens Transport). Have owned CBs when I was younger but very basic usage and knowledge. I am however a quick learner and will likely read every thread there is on SWR and CB usage.... But for now I am looking for a great radio that will take me from basic operation to an experienced level without too many upgrades. I went to a CB guy at the TA in Rockwall, TX and he was trying to throw me into a 400$ Stryker. Even when I explained that maybe something more basic would suit me for now (replace the radio in a couple years) he still seemed to think that was the radio I should get. I suspect he only works on commission. I want to stay "legal", but I do want to have fun. I hear a lot about the Cobra 29 on the threads. If this is sufficient, then I will get one and have it tuned. I go over the whole US and will get into Canada as well.. Tx and Rx range may be a factor, as the further I can broadcast and receive, the less lonely I can be. :) Money is not an issue, but wasting it would be. Any recommendations besides the Cobra and Unidens I see on the threads here?
