I saw on here someplace a reference to using your stacks as an antenna. I've got two big KW chrome 6'' stacks. Is that possible or was that just BS. Never heard of such a think. I was born at night but it was a whole lot of nights ago.

You would have to somehow isolate them from ground and then have some type of matching network so that they would have a 50 ohm impedance to keep the radio from ether folding back power or going up in smoke.

It is possible, but ... as mentioned, they would have to be isolated from the truck which will take a lot of money and then there has to be a way to match it as an unbalanced load to the radio.

Tanks guy, but it sounds like even if you could do, it would be too complicated and expensive. I'm currently running twin 4 1/2 ft Francis sticks. Was also thinking about trying to use my magnetic mount K 40 that I use on my pickup. Not sure if any part pf a KW w900 Aeorodyne is metal or the hole roof is fiberglass, I'll check it out next week. The K40 is a very good antenna but have some concern regarding the traier being there, might send out a one direction signal.

You can make a antenna out of a shopping cart...Doesn't necessarily mean it will work very good tho...

Well there goes the magnetic mount. I give up I'll just stay with the dual Francis. Thanks for the advice. By the way that shopping cart would probably rattle, could not put up with that.

it would look kind of funny with a shopping cart on the roof.

Possible? Perhaps. But you'd need an antenna tuner of some sorts to get the impedance right so the radio would be happy. As mentioned this would not be the ideal way of making antenna but certainly possible to do to an extent.

Ask some of the ham radio guys about how they've made the gutters on their house resonate RF as to serve as an antenna for when they live in areas under HOA. Granted not the best thing in the world but it beats the pants off of not being able to get on the air at all.
