Ah... the old spring-style echos. Worked great until you applied a bit of power. Shielded they were not and would they ever feed back! If you have your heart set on one then start trolling ebay, one is bound to show up sooner or later. Or, a competent tech can make you one from parts of an old guitar reverb pedal - they worked on the same basic principle.

I understand not wanting to hack up your radio but there are modern alternatives. A quick search on ebay gave me this http://www.ebay.com/sch/Radio-Communication-/1500/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=echo+boxes.

Properly installed, tuned and operated the internal ones can sound just as good if not better than the old ones. The reason why most people who have them sound awful is because they crank everything all the way to the right.

    Good luck.

I have an Astatic MobileMax, and I love it! It has 2 different echoes. Plug your mic into it, then plug the MobileMax into your radio's mic connector.

If you get one, be aware that the adjustment knobs are VERY sensitive, and make sure your output isn't too hot so that it doesn't overload the radio's mic circuit.

I wanted an echo box after I bought my Uniden 980, but ended up buying a GOOD noise-cancelling mic with echo (RF Limited 2018) and could not be happier.

But how else are you going to sound cool without it? I mean you spend long hours in the cab, you NEED some self amusement at the expense of others right?:biggrin_25525:
