There is one worthless feature found on the 949. It could have been intentionally not mentioned... The Roger Beep. I don't know why Galaxy put this worthless, annoying feature on a good radio. But it's there, on the Mic Gain Button. If you push the Mic Gain, the Roger Beep is activated. I will use the Talk Back to check to make sure I Do Not have the Roger Beep on. While driving, I have accidentally turned it on, while trying to adjust the Mic Gain, Darn bumpy roads..

Roger on the roger beep. I have had a few drivers ask me to turn it off and I didn't know how to until I found this thread. I bought the radio from another driver at my company for $20 and don't have a manual.

It's there so you can sit at the truck stop and quickly key and unkey numerous times.....to tick off everyone around you.

I always thought the squelch knob was the most useless feature.

    It disables your receiver.

I thought it only disables the audio until a signal or noise reaches a certain level. The meter still moves independently of the squelch setting.

Kinda hard to hear a stock Cobra 29 at a 30 mile distance under the best of circumstances. add a little bit of squelch and it will never happen
