I have recently acquired my technician class license, but my first name got put down wrong somehow (an 'o' got substituted for what should have been an 'a'). I literally just got my license in the mail today. Would anyone know what steps need to be taken to get this corrected? Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Yes, you should be able to update your license info online at the FCC's ULS site: http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/index.htm?job=home. Just how difficult the process will be depends on whether you know your password for your FRN number, which should be listed on your new amateur license and is the number you're known by for all your transactions with the FCC. If you don't know your password, go to the site and check out the frequently asked questions. There is a procedure for requesting a password reset.

I figured I would have to get a hold of my local ham club and go that route. Thank you so much for your help and quick reply. I'll start the process online, hopefully with little resistance

Good Luck! And congrats on your new ticket. If you do get stumped online, the local ham club route might be the next step. Nothing like having someone right there who has done it before.

Thank you. And yeah, the local ham club group are a friendly group of people. All of them appeared to be extremely knowledgeable. Actually every ham I've met has been pretty good to go in my book. I'm sure there are exceptions, I've just yet to encounter it.

Congrats on your ticket. Most hams are cool and happy to help. There are a few bad apples in ham radio though. You'll see them as they'll cuss you like a knife if you dare talk on "their" 80 meter band or if you happen to be a "chickenbander with an amp/export radio". Just avoid them.

Thank you Turbo. I'm sure I will run into those that like to make life difficult, but so far so good. Honestly, I just like radio regardless of the band being used and learning in general. I've never heard of the term "chickbander" before. Nice
Good advice overall, I read you 5x9 :) Hope that's how I'm supposed to say that. haha

Not that an update is necessary, but I followed the advice you gave here. It was easy to follow and worked. My name is showing up correctly on the http://www.arrl.org/advanced-call-sign-search now. Very much appreciate that :)

Congrats...... Please try to spread the word. I challange all Ham Radio Operators to contact a local school and speak to a class of young adults about the importance of Ham radio and how people help the comunity. Keep Ham Radio Alive !!!!!! Remember a booth at a fair, Computer show and other events including local business shows will help people. We the people let it show and spread the work about ham radio, now is the best time.... just imagine what would happen if the cells towers or electric grid went down......Thanks for reading my post..... Have A Great Holiday !!!!!
