Question: Is there a "Build Quality" difference between the older Uniden Grant XL or LT Philippine units except from the XL being the previous generation/series to the LT; is one better/worse than the other? Thank you everybody for your help.
What's the difference between Uniden's older Grant SSB Radios made in the Phillippine

Generally speaking, the real difference is that the older units were made with better components. There are many subs available for electric components. It's like washing your clothes in Tide or Walmart brand detergent, both will get the job done... One is a name brand. Unfortunately the tolerances on the newer components are often not as good as the originals. But there is a tradeoff, older units are OLDER, and even good components will fail eventually. Many who had the older radios for a long time will swear by them because of it.
One nice thing about older radios.... They usually take to modifications better. As FCC rules change to tighten loopholes, manufacturers have had to make radios harder to modify. That's why many choose to buy 10 meter ham radios today which are a bit less regulated. Any model of Grant is a great choice. Still a good quality radio. -
The Grant XL and Grant LT are basically the same., the LT being a revised version with some SMT parts and lighted rings around the controls. The LT's mic socket is on the face of the radio not the side as on the XL. Both are great SSB radios and I have never noticed any difference in the performance between the two.
