Just put a Midland 1001 in my pickup with a K40 magnetic base. I know the radio works ( took it out of another truck), antenna is new. The problem I`m having is that the radio gets power and when I key the mic the TX light comes on but nothing shows as far as output strength no sound not even static when squelch is turned down , wondering about needing additional ground. Any ideas would be great. Tried another radio but same thing. email is metalman7005@yahoo.com thanks again

What sort of vehicle? Where is the K40 mounted on that vehicle? The magnetic base is designed to have "capacitance coupled ground", meaning that by being magnetically attached to a metal surface it will create a proper ground plane.
You mentioned the antenna is new, if you're not getting any noise with the squelch turned up you may have a defective coax in the K40. -
It`s an `06 gmc pickup and I have it on top of the cab. Tried using an ohm meter by putting one contact on the mast and the other on the center of the coaxle where it goes into the radio, it seemed to check out by beeping. Hopefully this will give someone an idea of what I could check next. thanks for replying
