Is it worth it to pay for these extras or not?
This one is $360 or I can get a stock factory radio for around $165. I don't have radio shop nearby so ordering it already upgraded is my best option.
Galaxy 959 w/extras. Are they worth the extra $$$$?

I bought a similar 1 from custom cb radios. If you Google them you will see he sells stick Galaxy's and custom ones k or you can buy a stock 1 and choose your upgrades. I went to the custom radios and bought a new tuned 959 for 269.00. I have only had it a few days but it works great.

I have a Cobra 29 now with a wilson 2000 antenna. Sometimes I can be 1-2 miles from someone and they can't hear me. Will I notice any difference going to a stock Galaxy 959?

Depends on what you really want. Bottom line... Blue lights and echo are NOT going to help you get out. BEFORE getting another radio, check your antenna system:
Is the ground good?
Are the SWR's acceptable? (Minimum less than 2:1, in my opinion)
Are you using good coax? (Better shielding gets more power to the antenna)
Is the placement blocking your signal in some directions?
If it has a coil, is that coil in very close proximity to a lot of metal?
It would really bite to drop a lot of bucks on a new radio and not get out any better...
Second issue... The 29 is a great radio For a whole lot less money you can get it working strong. Is it old? Maybe the finals are weak? Put some 1969 or MOSFET finals in there and get her tuned up. Add a modulation kit and, if yopur antenna is OK, you WILL BE HEARD. It's about $35 for a MOSFET upgrade (can get you n25 to 40 watts depending on the radio) and $30-35 for the mod kit. This is installed.
Of course if the blue lights and echo are important to you, and you want Sideband, the Galaxy is fine. You could also add blue lights and echo to a 29 and still come ouit ahead dollars wise. But if SSB is what you want you will need a new radio.
One important note. The digital frequency display on a 959 s a waste in my opinion. It is exactly what iks says a frequency display. Not a true frequency counter. It will simply display the digital equivalent of the channel on the channel selector. -
I have grown rather fond of the Galaxy 929. Have one in my truck and another in my pickup. The talk back is very good. Just a great simple well built CB. It is my understanding, but could be wrong, that the 929 has mosfet finals from the factory.

For $360 you can get a real nice 10 meter and do some talking on the antenna you also got for that much.

Just a thought ... I love how they sell these things - advertised as new in the box. When things are modified, the warranty is gone so it becomes used, not new.
-
For 360 i can get a tuned up 29 and a two pill fatboy dont fall for that overrated overpriced hype

Fatboy LOL Another cheap unfiltered splatterbox...
darthanubis Thanks this.
