I have a cobra 25 that was a freebie, and I would like to put an amp on it so I can reach out there a little further. I know very little about radios, but I readily learn. The radio currently will deadkey about 30 watts and swing 50. What do I need to do to make this thing amp ready, and what is a good amp to use? Any and all help is appreciated.

I wouldn't be looking to put a Amp with that radio...I would be saving my lunch money for a New Radio!

Because on the outside chance that 25 is doing 30w's swinging 50, it's only a mater of time before it self-destruct's!

Poppa, I know next to nothing about radios. The cb shop I took it to hooked it up to his equipment, when he keyed the Mic the needle went to 30 and when he spoke into it it went to 50. I wouldn't have believed it had I not saw it with my own eyes.

If he's getting 50 watts on the swing, I'd think a Midnight Special 500 would work for him.

As far as the radio goes, that thing would have to be modified pretty heavily to do 50 watts, just taking the OP @ face value in case he has the guts of a different radio in a 25 box.

Like I say guys I have no idea about radios, just what I saw at the cb shop. The radio was given to me and the guy told me he had it turned up 20 years ago. So I have no idea what has been done to it. I am just a wanna be trucker (I hotshot with a 3500 Dodge) and would like bigger radio range.

Jesse, what kind of radio would you recommend? Just remember I am limited on space in a pickup.
