I just ordered the cobra 29 lx. I am looking at buying Firestik 6ft antenna heres the link. http://www.amazon.com/Firestik-KW6-B-Original-ft-Antenna-Black/dp/B005AUTDMQ Is this a good choice and if so what kind of mounting hardware should i use? Should i have a spring in between the mounting bracket and the antenna? I plan on mounting it center of my tool box on the tailgate side of the tool box. I am a welder so i can make a nice mounting spot once i know what bracket to buy? And i plan on running a good ground from the bracket to the body.( i just replaced all my main truck grounds with 2/0 and 4 gauge wire so i should be good). Next what length Antenna wire should i use and what is the best stuff to buy? And where can i find a deal on a meter to dial the antenna in once i install it? Last thing is i want to change the Mic. I love the look of the Road King RK564PCH heres the link. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=3201&pf_rd_p=1280661682&pf_rd_i=typ01
Or is the Astatic 636LSE better? heres a link. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...pf_rd_t=3201&pf_rd_p=1280661682&pf_rd_i=typ01
And any good ideas on a good external speaker would be nice also. I have been shopping on amazon a lot if anyone knows of a better place to find deals please let me know.
Just trying set my truck up right the first time. i figure i don't need an amp or anything as of right now, especially living in florida with all this flat ground lol. If you think im heading in the wrong direction please tell me, im new to this so any tips will help. Thank you in advance for any help you can send my way.

Get a Wilson 1000 or 5000. Forget the firestick. Spend a little extra for the Wilson. You will not regret it. Also I would mount it on the roof of the truck. I know the tool box mount looks kool but your signal will reflect off the cab of the truck. As far as the mount get a puck or if you don't want to drill the roof just get a mag mount model.

I personally like the Astatic. I think they are the best on the market for the money. Definitely replace your stock mic. The Cobra mics sound like crap.

Radio Shack sells a great swr/power meter.

What if the antenna base was right above the rear window? Between the cab and the tool box ? I could make a nice bracket out of aluminum in about 5 minutes?

Im just trying not to drill the roof lol, I just put a new headliner in and would hate to remove it. I think the biggest thing is making sure im bonded good. Im surprised that with the base at box height with a six foot antenna which would put about 4 1/2ft over the cab that it would give an issue. But thats why im on here asking questions lol. Thanks again

It might not but I always like my antenna on the roof or level with it.

It's about conditions. You can sometimes talk 20 miles barefoot and sometimes not get across the street with 100 watts.

You just don't want anything obstrucring your antenna.

Ok I talked my self into the Wilson roof mount 1000 I dont think I really need the 5000? And looks like they give you eveything you need. With that 62in antenna it will be up there pretty high. Is there regulations on height?
