I have a new stryker sr 655 that Im having high swr issues with. I have checked ground continuity and continuity through the co-ax with my multi-meter not resistence with either. Sometimes the swr is so high the radio goes into protect mode, other times it shows around 3, and sometimes it will start a 3 and then go down to around 1.5. Not sure what else to check to get it down

Radio is not the problem.check swrs on 40 and 1 if its high on both and about the same say 3.0 its a ground problem
-
first off explain what you have as an antenna and coax, because a sometimes means a lot of different things with RF.
-
18' Rg59 coax, cant remember who makes it, but its not truck stop brand crap. Running 2 3ft fiberglass firestik antennas mounted on the mirrors
-
Dump one antenna, get coax for one antenna and start with that to simplify finding the problem.
I am not a big fan for phased antennas on 11 meters, it seems not to make any sense.lobes1985 Thanks this. -
What recommendations for antennas do you have. I think Im going to go with a whip antenna like a Wilson or k40 because I go into areas with a lot of low tree branches and the fiberglass ones don't take the abuse very well, even with springs. -
Just use one of the 4 footers and see what happens, I would first rule out everything else then upgrade the antenna once it is fixed.

I would recommend the whip route myself. I haul heavy equipment off road down "pig trails" on an almost daily basis, and have laid to rest quite a few fiberglass sticks. Since I switched to a Wilson Trucker 2000 (small shaft w/coil, then about 3' SS whip) I haven't had any issues. And it gets banged around quite a bit....JMHO

86 the dual antennas get one like a wilson and go from there post and let us know the results and we'll try to help you.
