Got a new cobra 19 DX iv but can't seem to get it to transmit or recieve . have a fire stick antenna and have it mounted to driver side of the bed of my truck. Don't know much about CB radios. My mic works because I use the pa part threw my stereo and heard my self talking so I need some help. I don't have a swr either.

Is it a Cascadia? Do you get an antenna warning?

Don't really know what that is. Makes static noise. Start a low pitch noise now tho. When I say I know nothing about cb's I mean nothing.

Probably can't get the help you need on here because there is so much to check. My advice, if you have a friend that has been into CB for a while, or know a Ham operator, go see them and get some help and learn......it isn't very difficult to learn the basics and won't take but a few minutes to check everything out. Or go to a shop. But, beware of CB shops! Not all of them are what they claim to be. Again, check around before you spend any money in a truck stop CB shop. Even some with good reputations only have that, a good reputation, because they fooled the uninformed. Most of them are competent enough to check all your connections and SWR. But I wouldn't let anybody open my radio up unless I was convinced they knew what they were doing. Most old CBers and even some Ham guys are more than happy to help out a newbie.

    First things first...

You say it makes static? That's with the squelch fully counter clock wise? Try unhooking the coax at the back of the radio. Does the hissing drop dramatically? If so, I'd say it's receiving somewhat.

Next, you say the antenna is on top of the bed rail. How did you mount it?

When you mounted the antenna, did you ground it?

Where have you tried keying up the radio to talk at? Maybe there's no one near you with their CB on?

Have you tried driving to a busy truck stop and flipping to channel 19 and asking for a "radio check"?

Also what do you mean you do not have an SWR?
