Hello out there. I know this is a trucker site, but I was thrilled to find the radio section. I need some help, I hope you guys can offer me some direction... I will keep the backstory short.
Radio: Clear Channel AR-3500 with original stock mic
Power Mic: Astatic 575 M6 (Mint with original box and docs)
Antenna Tuner: MJK Versa Tuner II 941D
Power Supply: Pyramid 20amp variable
Back Story-
Prior to moving in 1994, I used to use this unit as a base station. Was talking to co-workers in the office yesterday about my old radio days, and decided to open the boxes that I packed 20 years ago. Everything is in near mint condition.
So here I am, Settled down and wanting to hook it up. AR3500 probably needs a tune up, I have no idea where to go. Any ideas who could work on my radio?
While I know I specific about my setup back in the day, I would like to go mobile with it. I currently drive a Honda Accord (not much space inside), where do people put these in today's cars?
And then completely out of curiosity, What would your thoughts be on the radio an mic setup on the road today?
I would really appreciate any comments and direction that you can offer. Looking forward to hearing back from you.
Thank you for letting me join the forum, hope to talk to you on the radio soon.

Dont know anything about that radio but if your going mobile 86 the power mic and get a noise cancelling mic and get a good antenna like a monkeymade or predator 10k with good coax set that up with a 4 pill amp like a fatboy or xforce dont know where you live but check out r&r communications website in delaware.

Thank you for the response, I should have posted that I live in Atlanta, Ga.
The AR3500 has a 100watt amp out the back. -

You want to put it in a place where you can at least reach it to turn it down while driving.
When I drove for a courier company as a fill in driver a long time back the cars were toyotas and they used commercial radios, which were mounted on the side of the console. It wasn't a pretty sight but it worked.
As for the mic, I would keep it and use it. If the stock mic gave you good performance, then use that and see how it goes.
As far as a radio tune up, I have a simple rule, if it was in the house and not in a mobile, then it doesn't need anything. Focus on a good antenna that will work for a small car, there are a number of them out there but maybe look at a Larson with an NMO mount. -
You want to send that AR3500 to Bob's CB shop in Strattanville, Pa. He was the main dealer and warranty center for those. Yours was most likely sold by him originally (I have one that came from him too). He still works on them and has parts to repair them, along with some factory updates if they havnt been done to yours already.

If it was working when you packed it away...Why do you think it needs a tune-up?
I would hook the thing up, and see what it will do before sending it out to be worked on...If it was "OK" when you last used it, chances are it's still OK... -

The 575-M6 mic you have is a very nice mic. They don't make them anymore and used ones bring good $ on eBay. I'd keep it, but if you use it, make sure you keep the volume on the mic below half, or you'll overdrive the radio.
